strange button

strange button

i have recently purchased a '01 320 which ,so far i love , but i have found a button on the steering column behind the wheel that pushes in but seems to do nothing ?? any ideas on what this button is for

Push the button and pull the steering wheel towards you and the steering wheel will come off. DO NOT try this at high speed.

If Im thinking of the right car..I believe that it turns the illumination on steering wheel buttons off...not sure which of my cars does that

Button?

I never noticed that before. Mine doesn't look like a button but a plug....and it pulls out and you can see a wire down in the hole going across it and the plug has a notch in it that goes around the wire. If it does turn the wheel button lights on/off how does it work? Anyone know what this piece/assembly is/does???

Yea on the left side of teh steering wheel in my 03' E320 it has this thing there. No tsure what that is either.
