Just got beat...
Neither of these cars are speed demons (I think the 0-60 for the SLK is posted as 7.2), but the 5-speed showed me a little something tonight. Can't wait for my 6-speed to arrive so I can go to PES and slap a Kleeman kit on it.
Sorry if this has been posted before. I should have searched first. :v (kidding)
Cheers guys.
Not meant to be a downer, but you've got to spend ~ $50K to get a fast MB.

I get what you're saying about price relative to MB speed. I didn't buy this car for speed (in fact, I didn't buy this car at all, I bought a a 6-speed, this is just the loaner), but for a combination of things...if speed is what I wanted, I would have stuck with my G35.
My observation about the 5-speed c230 is that it feels underpowered, not that it is slow...that's all, and I attribute that to gearing. I don't expect to be racing this thing, nor do I expect it to beat stock ANYTHING...hell, the Corolla Sport and Mazda 6 have faster published 0-60 times.
The 6-speed, on the other hand, has just the right amount of get-up-and-go to fit me into those tight places I sometimes need to get with my flavor for driving...
No disrespect to 5-speed owners, I would go for one if I was a less aggressive driver...cautiously aggressive, that is.
