Auto dip stick?
My tranny pan has very slight leakage around the perimeter. There is not even a stain on the belly pan, just some vertical streaking on the tranny pan. The dealer wants to drop the pan, reseal and refill for $200. That was at my last service, I told them to hold off for now. So I'm due for the next service and thought I'd check the ATF level. It turns out that the fill tube has a cap designed to prevent anybody but MB techs from removing it. Naturally I tried and broke the tab right on cue, dealer spanking expected. In spite of breaking the tab, I failed to remove the cap.
So Qs: How to remove cap? Is there a dip stick? How are the pans sealed...gasket, silicone? What ATF type?
I'm thinking I should just snug the bolts (torque spec?) and check the fluid.
I like my dealer but they seem to treat every job like a warranty job. One of the techs asked me "What's the best Mercedes ever made?" I replied "540K"
"No", he said "It's any one still under warranty."

I have a 190e and i was low on tranny fluid, oddly enough it was a "dealer item" and pep boys did not carry the proper weight. Same with Power steering fluid (20 bucks for a bottle) and i only needed about few capfulls.
