MB CD Changer question?
My Brother just bought a 2006 ML350 and his stock CD Changer can play MP3 files. I have a 2005 C230ss which was bought few months ago but my CDC doesn't play MP3 files.
Anybodys' C-Class CDC plays MP3s? Did MB just decided to change their stock CDC?

Unlikely. Unless they offer a software upgrade to the head unit, there's no way you can add MP3-CD functionality to a current head unit that doesn't have it already. It's not really the changer per se that's playing the MP3; it's the head unit.
I could be wrong, of course. It is possible that MB decided to put audio decoders in their CD changers, but that's a practice I haven't heard of. Though it would be nice for backwards compatability, as the head unit would just get audio data, not having to do the decoding itself, it'd be a little odd, as you wouldn't really be able to control folder access and stuff like that (regular CDs don't have folders, so the head unit wouldn't be able to do that).

How many files does it support? I'm just curious, really, as I have an MP3 head unit, and I'd like to know what the MB mp3 support is like.
It's very similar to if you have an Alpine MP3 CD changer and hook it up through M-Bus to a head unit which has no MP3 support. So if you have, say, a 1995 C-class, you can hook up that CD changer and play MP3 discs which appear to the head unit as just a very large audio CD.

...with an mp3 headunit and 6-disc changer, one could hold 4.9 GB of music (or 5.6 with 800 MB/90 MIN CDs), enough to last for weeks/months, seriously undermining the demand for a $300+ MB iPod upgrade.
