Anyone go to ATL ML Road Rally today?
thanks!
it wasn't too bad ! Besides the ML350 and ML500, they had a nice array of 2005-2006 models including an E55 AMG, CL600, and CLS500.
The track had plenty of turns and slaloms, plus a nice straight-away to get it really moving. Then at the end some "rough terrain" (pieces of rubber) to really go off-roading. Drove both the ML350 and 500. Don't know why anyone would go for the 350. Lacks power for such a huge behemoth. If you're going to tow ANYTHING, don't even look at the 350, go straight to the 500.
The styling of the new ML looks more like a Lexus, Acura, BMW hybrid, although the front (exception of headlights) does look a bit more aggressive with its angled windshield.
I was surprised that the new ML's do seem a lot smoother while torquier than previous models. A lot of neat gadgets too, including self-opening/closing trunk hatches, SIRIUS Sat Radio, and shift selector on the steering wheel leaving plenty of room / space between the two front seats for LARGE cup holders and storage space, not to mention the 2 monkey bars to hold on to when you flip the thing going too fast around a bend.
anyway, got my free cheese sticks, Norwegian bottled water, and of course "THE MASSAGE" oooohhhhh !
filled out the survey and got another Mercedes-Benz ball cap.

You don't like SUV's, thus you don't like the ML, therefore you're trying to degrade it by perpetuating this ridiculous erroneous statement that its a girl's vehicle. Give it up. No one is buying it. I GUARANTEE you there are more women driving C classes than men!
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
ml gas mileage is actually pretty decent compared to other suvs. well, did you know that c class stands for cheap class?
CL=cheap...?!!!!
CLS=cheap...?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"K" Kurz (German for Short)
"L" Lang (Long)
"V" Vor (Front, engine in front)
"H" Heck (Rear, engine in Rear)
Model letter designations on modern cars usually mean:
"K" Kompressor
"C" Coupe
"S" Sedan
"E" Einspritzer (fuel injection)
"G" Gelaendewagen (off-road vehicle) or Grand
"D" Diesel
"T" Turbo or Tourer
"S" Sport
"L" Leicht (Light weight)
Mercedes now markets cars according to Class designation. Some Classes are "S", "E", "C", and "M". These Class letters do not appear to have any particular meaning."

so, would CL / SL be it's own class or part of the C, S classes ?
Fine, if i was taking the kids to school and needed a mini-van but was anti-mini-van. But being a previous ML owner, and driving it down to Cabo San Lucas, with several off roading expieriences... I would not be interested in the new ML as a SUV.
Although, it was fun to get the tires singing around the sharp curves in the ML500. It felt as if it would be comfortable, and was definatly given a lot more interior and exterior design.
GREAT family car (shopping/soccer mom car).... But not a good vehicle for doing anything outdoors.
If you look over in the "new ML" forum, you'll see where either Road&Track or Car&Driver said the new unibody construction was better and made the whole vehicle stronger w/ less flex. Seeing as how the majority of owners will probably treat it as a tall station wagon vs. off-road vehicle, it was probably a wise move.
Jim, you would have had no problem getting in as I noticed many people there who "walked in" from hearing the radio spots. I overheard someone mention is was her first time in a "Murr-say-dees" and she liked it very much. She couldn't believe that anyone could just come on over and drive them. BTW, I have more fingers than she had teeth.
Overall, it was a nice setup...albiet spartan. No goody bags and just bottled water and pieces of cheesecake on a lollipop stick to get the Mercedes-Benz warm and fuzzies. All of the display vehicles were open to crawl around in and they had a decent course set up to see how the MLs handled. I drove each a couple times and actually preferred the 350....although the 500 had some very nice exterior styling cues.
We may be in the market sometime next year...

Funny, from a distance I too often confuse Kia Sorento's with ML's
