Shift Points for 05 W203
Hi,
I just purchased a 05 W203 (auto) and would like to know the proper shift points when using the Manual mode. I shift from 1-2 when it hits 4000 RPM and than 2-3 at about the same point. Is that OK or I can burn the engine out doing this?
Thank You

Its 2-3k rpm for me normally, 3-4k rpm when I need a little more power, and 4-6k rpm very occasionally. If I want the car to shift between 1-2k rpm I would just leave it in auto.

I doubt you will "burn" your engine even doing higher rpm shiftings...fuel cut at redline is invented to prevent you from "burning" your engine....seriously is this your first car? There isnt really a standard of where in the rpm range you should shift..its really user preference, thats why there is a manual mode. Otherwise they will all just come with fully auto where all shiftings are pre-set.

This is my first Benz and I previously owned a Nissan Maxima and Honda before that. Shifting was basically at the high rpms which the japanese cars where made for. So when I purchased my first Benz than I was scared to drive it like I drive the honda's and stuff.
I just want to make sure how to shift it properly to maintain a good engine and transmission. Thought I could ask you guys who have driven these cars more than me on proper upshifting and downshifting.
Thank You.

Nah...you're fine. Beside, if you don't up shift when the rpm reach the redline, the car automatically up shift the gear for you.
On down shifting, you can only do it manually when you reach 70mph for 3rd gear, 50 mph for 2nd gear and 30mph for 1st gear, otherwise it won't let you.

Yes, hes absolutely right. The manual mode is not a true sequential shifting, even if you wanna go crazy on it...it wont let you.
