Had some fun with a Maxima tonight.

Ok, so let me preface this by saying that we all know that our beloved C230K isn't exactly the fastest car in the MB stable; I'm not going to start the C240 v. C230K war up again either. However, comparatively, our car isn't too much of a dog.

Tonight, I was driving home from the gym on the side streets (35MPH zone) and I got behind a Nissan Maxima (the previous bodystyle SE which is the manual) that obviously had some mods (the exhaust was pretty damn loud) which was lined up next to an RX8 and a G35. The 3 cars in front of me didn't do squat, so I followed the Maxima and got in front of the RX8 so that I could be alongside the Maxima. Then at the next light, the Maxima and I started to hit it. Both of us didn't really expect it so we tried again at the next light. From 0-80 we were neck and neck but past 80 he started to walk away by a car length (I chickened out at 100 b/c I had forgotten my wallet with my driver's license in my house and we were in a 35)... But, not bad for an auto C230K v. a manual modded Maxima.

On the same street a few nights ago I also "raced" a riced out Nissan 240 (SX/ZX whatever the thing is) and put a 2 car length gap in between us. There was also a Celica GTS (the current model) who was apparently in it but he got left behind BAD but in typical ricer fashion, as we all slowed down he has to come speeding up and to a screeching halt.

The C230K isn't that slow, but I still am pretty anxious towards next year when I'll be in a position to trade up.

wait, what year maxima are you referring to? 3rd gen or 4th? either way, i'm guessing the guy couldn't drive manual. i had the 97' SE manual and that car was pretty quick. only had 190 hp, barely broke 3,000 pounds and i remember motor trend reporting a 6.6 0-60 on it that year. 2000 + is even quicker so since my manual C230k can't hang w/ a 4th gen manual maxima, i don't think an auto could. sounds like you had some fun though

I think the driver was experiencing "challenges" driving that car.My 97' SE with 166k on it runs with my 00' 230k pretty close. If it was the newer versions ( 250hp & 265HP ) and the driver could shift you wouldn't be making this post. Nice job though , glad you had fun !

2005 C230 Sedan 6spd
I've driven and owned two Maximas, then I trade in 2k2 for my current C230 (97 Auto and 2k2 6spd)

My old 2k2 Maxima

Let me tell you, 0-60MPH Both Maxima ownz my current C230 6spd. ( Our supercharged engine has no Power under 3000RPM!)

On the highway or from a 40MPH rolling start, It will be close between the 97 Maxima auto vs. C230 6spd. As far as the 2k2 maxima 6spd..........sorry the performance differents its night and day. 3.5L V6 Ownz!! (in straight line atleast)

Trust me, I'm speaking from experience

I agree nissan makes some great performing engines. I've been alternating between my C230k and my girlfriends brothers Sentra SER Spec V (190 hp 4 cyl) and even that car is noticeably quicker than my C. I remember watching Car and Driver TV and they tested the V6 manual Altima SE and reported a 5.9 second 0-60. ran a few in my manual 330 coupe and barely kept in front. then you basically have the altima and maxima in RWD versions in the Infiniti G35's. great bang for the buck, but could use some exterior and interior styling improvements.

I thought SE-R Spec-V had only 175HP? Unless your GF's brother had his car modded? Nissan has pretty good design, but only one's design in Japan. Nissan North America design seems to screw up the design some......

your right, it is only 175hp. car is stock so now i'm abit confused as to why it's quicker than my car. guess b/c the supercharger doesn't kick in right away and the SE-R has bigger displacement. 2.5L vs. our 1.8L

will say one thing though, the Spec V pulls like a mother off the line and when switching gears during hard acceleration due to the FWD. much smoother with the RWD. i think with just alittle more power, i'll be overall satisfied with my C. planning on the Renntech ECU and pulleys when i move down to Florida for the winter. Renntech is only 15 miles from my house down there which is much more convenient and gives me a level of comfort knowing that they will be close should i encounter any problems.

But your 00' 230k is a w202. I had a 97 C280 Sport and that thing had the same if not worse performance as my 05, so I'm not too sure that a 00 w202 would compare that well to a 05 w203... But, I guess since they put out about the same power... all love for the c-class family.

I was thinking the same thing. Why do they post such stupid stories thinking people will be impressed? Big thumbs up for racing illegally.... NOT. Same stupid sh*ts that end up hitting someones dog or kid. I hate dumba$$'s.
A good friend of mine was HIT by an idiot like this who was being cool in his G35. He is still in rehab after 8months.....
Grow up and take this crap to the KILL stories, not the w203 section.

i think the 97, 98 and 99 maxima were the best looking maxima's nissan ever designed. the 97' SE manual i had was pretty quick from the factory, but they're easy to tune and show nice gains. mine had roughly 230-240hp when finished, then i traded it in for the 99' Infiniti I30t. If memory serves me right, I believe the 97'-99' maxima posted 0-60 times of 6.6 seconds for the manual and 7.2 seconds for the auto. I think 2k2 was when they bumped the hp to 255 and pulled 0-60 times in the 6.2 second range with the manual tranny. so i'm guessing the guy you ran had a late 90's model b/c a 2k2 would walk the C230 even with a poor driver.
