Mod? Perforated Stainless Mesh in Front Bumper
I own an 04 C230 SC and have been getting into doing some light mods. My 18" AMG Style V will arrive on friday and I had another idea and cannot find a similar mod in a search.
Is it possible to replace the plastic diamond patterned mesh next to and between the fogs with perforated stainless steel mesh? My dad did this mod to all of the air intakes on his C6 and it got me thinking. I also notice that the SLK55 has a similar setup.
If it is possible, the material costs should only be around $100 and it should not look at all
What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Bryan

I think that is would look OK as long as it is done well. If you are after the silver color look Here for pictures of CitronC230K_03's painted mesh on his coupe. It looks awesome IMO and might be a little easier than scrapping the exisiting and starting over.

Mesh
If you do go with mesh the welded mesh looks nicer. Less like window screen. This looks really nice;

If you install it diagonally it looks really professional. It's kinda expensive and you can pay a few hundred $ a roll. Maybe you would want to go in with someone else to buy a roll or maybe they have pieces available if you call them.

By mesh I mean sheeting with circular holes punched out, specifically part number http://www.mcmaster.com/itm/find.ASP...tring=9358T341 from McMaster-Carr
However, I do like the diamond idea, specifically http://www.mcmaster.com/itm/find.ASP...string=9344T34

<Angelic music plays> The coveted McMaster Carr Catalog!!! Thats where to buy that stuff for sure... I think my dad keeps every single catalog he gets from them because they are so hard to get!

I am not yet one of the chosen ones granted a prized print copy of the Catalog. lol
But seriously, how difficult do you guys think the install would be? I went looking around this morning and it looks like I could take the front bumper off via the clips of the top and bottom and gain access. Anything else I need to know?
