Ordering and price negotiations

I've finally narrowed my choice to either the c230 or the acura tl. There aren't too many options on the acura either nav or no nav and auto or 6 speed. Finding the right acura isn't a big deal. Finding the right c-class is proving to be an issue so my only option is to order one. What I don't understand about the ordering process is the final negotiated price. If I place an order for a c-class am I also making a committment on the price of the car or can I begin the negotiating process after the car arrives?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's something that'll make your day a lot easier... let me copy it from one of my previous posts..

Send a fax to every dealer in the state with the options you want exactly, and tell them they have 72 hours to fax you back the best price they can give you.

You should then shop from there, that way you don't have to ask, 'is this the best price? or could we do better'

Good luck! And keep us updated!

Yup. That's the best way.

Just say that you are looking for a certain car with options you want.

The fax letter does not need to have the dealership's name, merely To: Whom it may concern.

It should do it.

By this way, you probably don't have to order one.

when i ordered my car, whatever rebates/incentives available at that time, i was guaranteed to have at least that. at the time order 11/25/02 the rebate was $1500. when the car was delivered 01/29/03 it was $2500, so i got the $2500 rebate instead.

personally i think its difficult to negotiate prices when ordering a car. when a car is on the dealers lot they are trying to get rid of it and the person shopping for the car has the advantage. when ordering the car, you really have no leverage. you want something that the dealership doesnt have in stock. just my $0.02.

Mine is for sale. More options than... anything else you want could be retrofitted.

Everything is negotiable until you sign the contract. After that, you're screwed for the next 3-5 years. j/k
