i think for those of us who have spouses that also drive an MB,
we're lucky they kinda understand the passion that we have towards the marque.

as for addictions.... i don't think that is curable.
Because i'm soon as i'm done modding the C-Coupé, (if ever !), i know my next Benz won't be rolling stock for too long !

anyways, back on topic...
Mike, i found in my stash of papers that I printed out back in 2003, a PowerPoint presentation for W203 & 463 HVAC. (507 HVAC HO 203 & 463 ACB ICC - 10-30-02).
It looks like a System Training Presentation for a course.
I'll show it to you next time we meet up.

Also, at my last Service B, the techs left a print-out of i guess was the log of diagnostic tests of all my modules, EIS, SAM, ME-SFI, etc... and
in the C-AAC section, my car gave 6 error codes all relating to communication errors of the AC bus with various components, including: charcoal filter flap adjustment motor, defroster flap actuator, footwell flap actuator, fresh air flap actuator, sun sensor, & multifunction sensor.
The DAS status is "current & stored". My SA didn't mention anything about these, but i'm figuring that's because they're not in my car to begin with.
So, i'll show you that print-out too, see if you can make some sense out of the hiroglyphic MB code.

ok, so next step, is ordering all those parts you listed:

Your car is a 2004 C320 Coupé, do you foresee any differences / problems in doing the exact same thing on a 2003 C320 Coupé ???

There should be no problem at all, that I can forsee. Should be smooth sailing. You know, it may be worth trying to find a car in a scrap yard with the stuff on it you need, at that point you may just want to pull out the whole HVAC unit and have the 100% retrofit. That just got me thinking...

Let me know when you are getting closer to doing this.

To revisit this older thread....can anyone give me a bit more explanation on the ground-loop required in the schematic?

I have been giving doing this some consideration, and although I don't have any problems following a schematic and building the harness, the actual electrical understanding was not my strong point.

Until then, I think I will go

Would this also work (I assume so) on a 2005+ (Face Lifted) w203? I added the digitial HVAC controller to gain [REST], and would love to add in these features as well...

Thanks!
More pictures on wiring, plug in and full integration would be GREAT!

Thanks,
Jake

Yes, it just happened!

Yes, I brought back this OLD thread! Anyways, I have read this thread three times from beginning to end. I get all of it but here's my question:

The author of this thread mentions having to make a harness from scratch for the Multi-function sensor only? Not for the sun sensor? So, does this mean that the plug for the sun sensor is tucked away somewhere around the area of the hood grille? I have looked and not found anything. I have an '05 C230K SS with the rubber plug in the place of the sensor and was wondering if I could go ahead and buy the sun sensor and install it right now while I gather the rest of the parts to do the digital climate control swap and the harness mod to add the multi-function sensor.

Thanks to everyone in advance!

From my experience with this on an 07 C350 none of the wiring is present to hook up the sun sensor and multifunction sensor. If it were Pin 11 would be populated on the AAC plug in your center console. Interpreting what the OP was meaning is that since both the multifunction sensor and sun sensor share the same wiring (pin 1 is ground, Pin 3 is 12V, and Pin 2 is the signal which both go to Pin 11 on the AAC) you can buy the harness for the sun sensor and then splice a new leg on that harness for your multifunction sensor. Anyway what is what I did and it works. Well, actually I made both harnesses.

Thanks so much jrsmith, that makes sense. I'll probably buy two of the harness p/n so that I can have the same color wiring and also all I probably have to do at the multi-function sensor end is just change the plug out instead of having to mess with crimping on the pins and all that. Another question if you don't mind: There is a wire run that goes to the windshield washer sprayers which is what I initially thought was the run to the sun sensor. What is the reason for the sprayers to have an electrical connection? Are they heated or something? It's the only thing I can think of. I have said before that I'm new to MB but not new to cars and I've never seen windshield washer NOZZLES with wiring plugged into them. Thanks again guys.... this forum is awesome!

Never mind, I answered my own question. I pulled out my VIN decoder paperwork and saw option code 875 "HEATED SCREEN WASH SYSTEM" so that's what it is... thanks anyways!

Does adding the sun sensor make much of a difference on cars with the knobs for temperature control?

No, the knobs will only use the dew point/climate sensor in the blower housing along with the outside air and two interior air temperature sensors.

While I was doing some "spring cleaning"...I found an old wire harness that I bought years ago with the intent to modify for this mod...

Can anyone that has added the Digital HVAC controller to a non digital OEM car please post (with images to support diagrams or pictures of cabin/console/engine bay/etc.) of how you tied the sensors into the wire harness and vehicle CAN Bus?

I was HOPING that MB would have left the plugs there, unused like in this r171 SLK; http://www.slkworld.com/general-modi...-upgrades.html

My Dealer is telling me my OEM harness a2035406633 (item 10) "should have them" as shown in image...

But I do not see them...

(No one, that I have seen or read has tried to tie in the rear passenger booster fan and potentiometer switch in the grille venting...I have most of these parts too in that box, with the wire harness...)

Never followed up...
It wasn’t bad...just needed a “reason” to pull SAM and parts...Wiring in Distronic justified this as it all came apart in that area...

I made my own harness...as most do. Used the OEM connectors, but added a water proof one for the leg to the smog sensor. Close up by master cylinder shown here. Admittedly it’s not the best wire job from there to the smog sensor, I pulled it through once I knew it was clear of wiper/etc. (Ps.wiper has a safety on it, doesn’t like being powered up with hood (maybe) door open, etc.)

I used a pin from an old OEM climate controller harness end, and then just wired it all in. Super easy. Just do it!

Yes, the clips on the hood vent will break. Terrible engineering and material choice...I had help, soft tools, plastic wedges and patience and still some broke. It screwed back down well, just one corner is “not” as flush as I’d want it, but no one could tell...

Here you can see the waterproof connector I added/used for the smog sensor leg.

Detail/close up of waterproof connector.

I used a small ratchet tool with a torx bit to manually stew in the sensor. Arguably the most tedious part because it’s so tight. I did not pull any plastic (cowl drain, etc.) to install this...

Ran a hard wire from battery side to master cylinder and pulled my cable through.

Hi everyone,

First off, I’d like to apologize for bringing up this old thread, but I want to thank everyone who contributed such valuable information—it's been incredibly helpful.

I’m currently planning to do this conversion myself and would really appreciate a bit more detail. Specifically, I’m trying to figure out where exactly the added plug X85/9 is supposed to be connected.

Digging into the SAM diagrams, I can see that the power for the added plug (X85/9) comes from Pin 8 on Plug 19 of the Front SAM, however, I also noticed a wire that runs from the plug to the C-AAC control panel.

Any clarification would be hugely appreciated—just want to make sure I’m wiring this up properly and not missing a crucial step.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,

Hello everyone,
Just a quick update — I checked my Climatronic Control Unit connector (referred to as N22/7), which is a 16-pin MQS/JPT-type connector. After disassembling it, I found that Pin 11 is not populated. Does this mean I need to route a wire from the X85/9 CLIMATE/COCKPIT connector to the Climatronic control unit?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards
