Question 2005 Thermotronic (digital climate control)

Does anyone know the part number(s) for the 2005 W203 digital climate control (Thermotronic)? From what I read in the threads the CLK part number doesn't seem to work. However, on MB's european web sites Thermotronic is an available option for the C230 SS. Therefore, I thought there might be other part numbers. I would love to do this mod and would appreciate any help I can get.

Try contacting Scorchie, BigSis or MBenzNL....they have access to the best pricing you'll find and most euro-parts codes.

I have that installed in my car http://homepage.mac.com/drsunilpatel/PhotoAlbum14.html It works in my car but I have a c320. The c320s come with thermatronic already. I upgraded to the new interior and added the newer thermatronic and it works in my car but it may not work in your car as previous owners have tried. It's another hit and miss thing. Also, you can't order it in the USA. THe one pictured has the air cleaner button. The ones in the clk are digital but don't have the air cleaner.

Thanks for the information gents! Sunman, I have a 2005 C230 SS. I thought the 2005 C230 has the air cleaner on the thermatic climate control. Maybe I am confusing it with something else. Can you explain the what you mean by air cleaner? BTW, Where did you get your thermatronic from Sunman? You have done a lot of mods to your car - it looks great!

Now I'm confused. First you ask about 04 and now you state you have 05.

AFAIK, there is a paper air filter in the stoick climate system and then there is a carbon filter in the upgraded climate system.

Oops! The thread title is 2005 Thermotronic (digital climate control). I must have made a typo in the post. I'll make a correction.

Thanks for the explanation. What does the air cleaner button do on the thermotronic?

the carbon air filter cleans the air in your car really really fast in case someone lets it rip in the car.

I'm curious - has it been hit or miss with the CLK thermatronic, the one with the air cleaner button like yours, or both?

Carbon Filter

Huh,

Imagine that. I woulda never guessed that an MB owner would even produce bodily gas.

Is the filter element the same? Can you just swap elements?

all c classes have a basic paper filter on the intake side of the a/c system which is above the battery. However, the c320s have a extra pollen/charcoal filter located inside the cabin. To activate this feature, you have to press the button and it will redirect air to these filters and back out of the vents. As far as adding the digital version to the 05 cars, I am not too sure about. Previous owners 01-04 that did not have digital climate control to begin with, have added the digital controls. The filter button does nothing though in these cars. Also, the digital controls for 01-04 come in several software versions and some work for some people while others do not. It's a guessing game. As for 05 USA cars, none have the digital climate control. I have heard that adding it afterwards will not work for some reason. I am not sure, and it probably has not been tested thoroughly. USA CLK cars from 05 have digital climate control but no air filter button as in the picture above. These controls may work on the C classes for 05 but I am not sure if anyone has tested these.

Does anyone know the part number for a USA 2005 CLK digital climate control unit?

Here is a picture of the digital a/c unit in the SLK. Note that there is only one fan control knob like all the non thermotronic C's (c230's, 240's and all 05's). Hummmmmm...

...and here is a picture of the 2005 W203 and R171 climatronic units next to each other...the R171 ones don't fit in the 203s and as far as I have been trying the 2005 W203 climatronic units in the 2005 US 203s - there hasn't been ONE yet that worked properly...

greetingz,
Thanks for the information. Have you tried the W209 digital climatronic unit(s) in the US spec W203? Sunman mentioned that the European digital climatronics have the carbon filter button and the US spec W209s do not. I would really like to do this mod. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated. Can you get the US spec W209 digital climatronic unit(s)? Is there more than one?

This was something that bugged me a little when I was getting my car. It was a toss up between the new C280 and the C350 models, and then I found out that they did not offer the digital climate control in the states "at all" on the C-class anymore.... So, I went with a fully decked C280. I would have preferred the digital climate control thats available on even the cheapest of cheap Audi....
