Had someone, a guy no less, ask my girlfriend today "so what does your boyfriend do that he drives a $90,000 car". NINETY. C230. Most common-folk guess around 45-50k...this is the first time I've heard such an outrageous figure. I should have sold it on the spot for the bargain price of 60 :v

Cheers.

I remember watching a show on tv where they asked people on the street to guess the price of a Ferrari Modena. Most thought it was a $35k car. Highest estimate was $50k

So, what does it tell you? That most people are easily manipulated, incurious and never question anything the almighty TV drums into their heads. Not too surprising, really.

LOL, NICE!!!!! Man, I wish it happened more over here, but alas it is LA.

It did happen to me back in high school when I had my 1997 C280 Sport, they saw the AMG wheels (15 inch albeit) the "CF" trim and people thought it was a C36... People that don't know much, but yeah. The valets thought it was a C36 too, I remember that they parked it next to a Ferrari 355 in front of Caesar's Palace back in the day...

muha...i went to Rodeo Drive last time and the valets parked it right next to a 360 modena up front and drove a S500 that was in front of me to the level below. I had just washed my car that time too.

No. That story, plus the story on this thread tell me that a lot of people who are not "in" to cars do not know how much specific brands costs. Most are probably not in the market to buy such a car and really don't care!

What I find funny is the "status" that some people on this forum seem to enjoy in driving around a C230 when in fact, just about every Chevy Suburban on the road costs much more than their car.

Hahaha...They did it with mine also, Frank! The valet that's under that stone walkway area (that they always showed scenes from B.H. 90210).

Only difference is you've at least got a 32. Mine's only a 230k SS...LOL...so I was like, wtf? I guess they think my car is just as expensive as that "other" car (a modena) that is astronomically more in $.

It's a trip because I was up North with my cousin last weekend and we went to a Mitsubishi EVO meet in the Bay area.

Long story, short, his friends from the EVO forums asked me what I drive and I told them a C230 K SS. ALL of them reacted like, "Oh...Sh...that's like bling, bling style..."...

hahaha...I think they were just messin' around, but if they weren't, I don't think they realized that my car w/ options was just as much as their cars.

When people give me funny looks as I try not to tell them I am driving a Benz, but need to as they ask, I tell them it costs the same as a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I would have bought if I wanted an SUV! I am not saying top of the line but pretty loaded like my Coupe is! Well for what you can get on it at least!

yea, i get that too some times, but there is always a **** in the crowd. I sometimes go to the VW meets and other car meets with my friends. almost every time I go I get people who like my car and think cool, stylish, and or expencive, then i get the **** who desides he needs to share his bright knoledge and say loudly... oh thats just the cheap budget benz. or some other bad mouth thing. I dont realy care, because i dont ham up my car and pretend its all uber expencive or any thing. i tell the truth if some one asks the cost i tell them the cost and my payments. I just hate when people talk down about someones car

WHen people ask me what kind of car I drive I always condition it with "just a C-Class". That being said, since when did 35K become a cheap car? If you want to spend 40K on some plasticized tank with a "Suburban" or "Navigator" monicker, be me guest, personally I'd rather drive one of the best looking (and fun) cars on the road. I'm not the type of person who marries their pride or net worth to the badge of their daily driver...if I was, trust me, I'd be frequenting forums well beyond the C-Class. And in all sincerity, other than the SL and CL, I find the C-Class the most attractive Benz.

To a lighter point, I would love to post a pic of my girlfriend (fiance, actually, but I find that term rather pretentious) but she forbids me from posting one here...oh well...maybe I'll sneak one in in the off-topic area soon...

Cheers.
