What they were telling me was something that each door panel has some type of computer in it, so they have to remove the door panels to take care of something. I dont know. But the tint is only $249 for lifetime, which isn't bad. But they want to charge me $85 per door panel to remove to take care of whatever they are talking about. They said that water can get in and ruin this computer and it wouldn't be covered under my warranty. What do you guys think?

I believe that there are computers in the door panel, but that seems like a lot of money to remove the door panel and cover up a little box. And if you do pay for it, you better watch them and make sure they are actually doing all this. They may just be trying to trick you.
I never had any problems with mine, and I haven't heard of anyone else here having a problem like that.

Rotty, I got your e-mail and responded to you. Try Sun Masters in Farmer's Branch... about $225 for midgrade on my 4-dr sedan. Maybe they're talking about taking off the panels to install the moleskin, but I've not heard of anyone charging more than a nominal upcharge for that.
I shopped several tinters in the N. Dallas area. They were all $160 (el cheapo) to $300 (top grade, full metallic).
I'm in Flower Mound (NE of Ft. Worth). If you want to see my tint, I can maybe meet you sometime.

No need to take off the entire door. All they need to do is pull on the inside of the door and it pops at the top. Then they take out the rubber inside, shave it, and put moleskin on it.

Mine has been tinted for over a month, and I don't see any scratches. I looked at the door panel on another coupe, and I saw nothing on the door panel that touches the window, so I still don't know what needs the moleskin, unless it is inside the door. If anything, I think it is just a tight fit between the rubber seals at the base of the window that might scratch it.
Although, my tint is now peeling off from the top edge, so I will have to get the drivers' door re-done. Is it better to wait until it is warm outside?

My '02 has had a 20% tint for about a half year, no scratches other than a few nicks from the seat belt. The place that Ben recommended did a great job and put in moleskin. Looks good but I think it's too dark, at night my vision is definately reduced. If I had to do it over again I would go with 35%.

Tinting Problem Solved????
So i just got my car back from the tinter and..... they tinted them 20 percent it looks beautiful... as far as what they did for scratching listen to this... they took the peices out that have the abrasive edges on it.... i have them in my trunk. the tinter they use tints for Helms Brothers and other mercedes dealers in the tristate area
i was a little confused my self on why they are vestigial. Is there any harm in having these peices out??? was that a big mistake on their part what do these peices do and how the hell did he get them out with out removing trhe door panel??
They said that it would not affect the window motions he also said when tinters bend the peices out they eventually come back into place and scratch the tint.
Someone tell me if i am in any danger of messing up my windows if u please i will take pictures of the parts they took out.

I got them when the car was new, it was about $800 tax and all for the swap. Just sold them this week for $400 and now I have C7 wheels which weren't available when I got my car in mid-2001.

Don't know but in a bizzare twist, I shipped the first 2 wheels and got charged for 82 lbs. the next 2 wheels I got charged 64 lbs. Maybe some wheels weight more than others? They bead blast off the paint and then triple plate the chrome (copper/nickel/chrome) so my guess is that they would be slightly heavier. But if the second weighing was correct at 32 lbs per boxed wheel, subtrack about 2 lbs for the box and you have 30 lbs for a chromed 16" wheel with a tire. Subtract out about 10 lbs for the tire and the wheel weighs 20 lbs.???

I think they're supposed to shave those pieces thinner, put moleskin on them, and put them back.
The parts they took out are long black rubber strips right?
