Not exactly true. You cant have your windshield or front windows tinted but the rest is okay. WHO CARES THOUGH, if a cop comes just roll them down.

Well i had many of your concerns and i went and tinted my windows anyway
I didnt tint the bottom plastic peace because it is challenging to do and it isnt glass.. As far as the rear glass i did tint it. Depending on how compitent your shop is they may or maynot mess it up. It has to do with the tint floating process and water floating into the signal amplifiers... I had this limited.. like i cant unlock my car from the front sometimes... i have never had a problem with AM or FM radio reception. just remind them that it is an issue.. i wouild be more worriieed about scratching though

I had the antenna amplifiers short out on mine. It usually requires a new back window. Have them tint the rear glass from inside with the hatch down. The amplifiers are at the top of the glass, so if they keep the water flowing down, then it should be okay.

just pull it off or use a razor blade, then cleam with windex. now for the rear, you most likely will screw up the rear defrost.

I found a dirt trapped within the tint. The tint shop guy just peeled it off by HAND and then put on a new tint sheet. But that's just for the size rear window, not sure about any special procedures needed for the rear windshield.

A razor blade cannot hurt your glass...

Once you peel it off with your fingernails , spray the glass with Windex w/ ammonia. You can then start scraping the glue residue of off the glass. To do delicate areas such as arounbd window defrosters you can use a toothbrush and Windex to srub away the glue. Not a big deal.

If it hasn't been on very long, you might be able to pull it off without leaving a lot of glue. Just pull it very slowly to leave the least amount of glue. And yes, you can use a razor blade on glass. Of course, it's best if it's a clean one that is sharp and will sit flush with the glass.

Hey, if an old fart like me can remove window tinting, you can do it too. Just pry up an edge with the razor blade and pull it off. I used gasoline to cut the glue residue, but that was overkill. I did the side windows, though, not the rear window with defroster wires. I'd call a tint shop and talk them into sharing the secret sauce tips on that.

Tint Problem?

I read in the E class forum that some of them experience scratches on their after market tint because of the seal.

For those of you who've had aftermarket tints on the C230K coupe, have you experienced any problem? I'm getting mine tinted tomorrow!!!! yee!!

This has been discussed numerous times here. Some people live with the tiny scratches (MB-BOB), others have moleskin applied(i.e.Buellwinkle). Do a search on here. I'm too lazy.

Go to any fabrics shop and get a couple yards of Moleskin, take it to the tint shop and ask them to wrap the moleskin around the rubber seal, then you will be fine!

New to tinted glass

I just checked my sales literature, and for the 2002's, apparently only the C32 came with "blue-tinted glass", all other cars are "neutral-tinted".

My question - can I get my side and rear windows "blue-tinted" after-market? It seems like an intriguing idea!

I also hear about the guys putting tinted film in their cars. I definitely don't want that - I've seen too many bubble effects on the older cars.

What are the options when you tint after market? What are the cost differences? Yes, I'm a newbie to tinting...

The blue tint on the C32 is no more noticeable than the grey tint on the remaining cars... You can tell it's blue, but so is the color of some natural glass.

Don't shy away from tint films based on what you see on the road. The bubbles are a sure sign of someone who tinted his own car in his driveway, not at a tint shop. Professional tinters will not put bubbles in your tint.

In general there are two types of tint, dyed tint and metallized. The dyed stuf is cheaper (by about $30-$50 a car) but the color fades with time (years) to an ugly purple. The several grades of metallic tint start at about $170-$200 a car (based on shop and season of year--now is peak time for tinters so you'll pay more).

The metallic tints resist color fading, but can effect your AM reception from the embedded antenna on the C-Class if you get 100% metallic tinting. I have 90% metallic tint on my car, and I don't notice much signal degradation on my AM... But I also use my cassette player more often than my AM radio (which is to say not much).

There are other fancy and high-tech tints that can be very expensive, and your MB dealer will usually charge twice the amount it will cost to have the same tint aplied at a tint shop. Do have it done at a place that specialized ONLY in tinting. You'll find several different companies in your local directory, unless you live in Alaska.

Look into getting "moleskin" coating for your internal window frames in the doors. Do a search (see the sticky at top of this forum for instructions) on "Window tinting" and you will find dozens of threads on this subject for more information.
