If you can get it, please do so. I already scratched my window already and I can't find a place in Queens/Long Island that has moleskin install. I will eventually have to redo my window on the drivers side.

I thought the same thing when the installer told me to get it there. Only problem with the Dr Scholls is it is a tan color. If you don't place it just right inside the door you can see some of the material when the window is up. If you can find it in black or a dark color through a fabric store, I would go that route - but DEFINITELY get it. I can see how without it your tint would get torn up quick!!

Tints that were put on my car recently began to streak and my tint shop agreed to cover the door seals with moleskins. However, the shop doesn't have experience installing moleskins, so is there anything that the shop should do to make the process go smoothly.
How do you wrap a door seal in moleskin? Do you have to shave down the rubber? Can you use moleskin from a fabric store that comes without an adhesive strip? Does the moleskin have to be replaced regularly?

I just used the soft part of the velcro strips and that worked fine for me... no scratches ever since... usually the moleskin they use has the adhesive part on one side that sticks to the abrasive rubber piece... usually shops will shave that rubber piece down a bit before putting on the moleskin... but as for me, I just applied the velcro strips on and it works fine...

Well, with the potential that your thread will get closed because this topic has been discussed several times (search and you'll see), I'll answer your questions real quickly.
1. Ask whichever tint shops you are considering if they've used moleskin for the window tracks before.
2. I believe most Euro cars and more specifically BMW/Benz need moleskin to prevent streaking from the window tracks.
3. Use for moleskin is stated in 1 and 2, but if you didn't get that, it's used to prevent the streaks that show up on the tint when moving your windows up and down. These streaks are formed from the window tracks and can be prevented when MOLESKIN is placed on the tracks.
4. If you dont get the moleskin, your tint won't be "ruined" per-say, you are just more likely to get more streaks showing up (even when your windows are clean). I'm sure that others have experienced the tint being messed up without the moleskin, however, it's really up to you (on whether you don't mind the tracks showing up or not).

thanks! I like your color it says midnight blue but my ride looks similar but is called diamond black.
my dad just got off the phone with a tint shop and they know about moleskin and have a good warranty.
He said only a few cars really need moleskin but he said he has to look at the window to see...I told my dad ti get it anyway. But the tint guy seems to know what he is talking about.
it cost around 199 at his place.

Thanks for the compliments on the color. I indicated on the other thread you started (introducing yourself) that I really like the color you got too! Looks dark blueish (which is why I got my color).
Another thing, just so you understand that I'm not trying to bash you, when you start threads that have similar information in each of the threads, you contribute to an influx of duplicate threads when somebody tries a search.
For example, you started a thread introducing yourself with pics of your car and asked about "tint" in your thread. You also started a thread specified about "tint". You also asked about "moleskin" in your thread. Now these are 2 threads that when someone else tries to search for information on "tint" will come up and those threads will supercede any "older" threads that may have had more useful information.
You have good intentions, but just wanted to make you aware of how the search function works and hopefully you'll be able to find older threads in the future that will help you in whatever you are doing with the car.
BTW...$199 is a pretty good price (as long as they give you some sort of warranty). I think you mentioned that you were in Cali, so if they have a warranty like one person had mentioned where they will remove and replace the tint for free, that'd be awesome. I don't intend on tinting my car, but just something for you to consider being in California.
