help! just tinted windows and remote barely works
i just got my windows tinted yesterday and it looks great... but car barely responds to my key remote. i have to press it like 5-6 times before i get a response. i tried my extra key (with a new battery) and it is very sporatic. sometimes yes, sometimes no.
the tint i got was diamond cut with 30% all around. im pretty sure it had a metalic layer in it.
is this why im having problems?
should i go get it redone tomorrow?
has anyone had problems with this?
they have an option for hubur optik which is a dual layer ceramic, but is wayyy too expensive for me. ($460... for a coupe!)
what should i do?

shy of removing the tint and replacing with something less metallic, you may
want to try the trick of pointing the business end of the key to your chin and
pressing the un/lock. should extend the range a half dozen more paces

Uhoh, using metalized mylar in the tint material has shielded the antenna in the glass from receiving the RF signal from your key. Unless you want to use the metal key to get in and out of your car, you need to remove that tint.
There are inexpensive materials that can be applied that are not metallic. A first class tint shop would know about this aspect of Mercedes cars, and would not have used that material from the git-go.

with ash interior i would recommend 15-20% all around.
I actually had a C-class with ash and 35% all around standing right next to mine and you could just see TOO much in the other one.

update:
i first paid for 260 + 40 for moleskins for both doors for the "brilliant" tint with the metalicized layer that caused these problems.
just came back from the shop and explained that my keyless entry and radio werent responding normally. they took off the front tint and everything started working again. finally they were convinced that the tint caused the problems and not because of battery, recall, etc...
they suggested the lower grade of dye tint but i was totally opposed. then after negotiating with the owner, i worked out a deal for their diamond cut huber optik tint for 32% all around plus the addition of moleskins for $350 (i was first quoted for $460 for this combo before all this trouble)!
i did search the forums and what confused me was that they had other mercedes in the lot (ML, SL, etc..) and said this was never a problem before. they even said they have put the same tint on the c-class before and no problems. i guess i "lucked out".

I have Llumar 15% all around and i am totally happy with the setup. only disadvantage is at night when you want to make a turn on an intersection where there is no light at all. then it becomes hard to see something.

makes your daughter horny
I remember reading several threads regarding this issue. Wasn't the general concensus that this wasn't neccessarily an issue with the type of tint used?
Maybe I'm thinking of something else here but..
One possibility is in the process of tinting the rear window water can leak into the panel under the window which houses the antenna and ruin it.
This explains the varying amount of success different members have had with seemingly identical types of tint.

I'd 20% in FL as well. On the moleskin....get a tint & tint shop with a good anti-scratching warranty. If you get streaks...then its not that hard to add the moleskin yourself later and get it retinted under warranty.

Tint
Can anyone with a black C-class post pictures of their cars with tinted windows? I'm not sure if I'm going to do it because I'm partial to the factory blue tint but I want to see how everyone else's turned out.
Any input would be nice. Thanks guys.

How are people supposed to respond when you don't say what car you have?
In any case, for the record, though for certain it's elsewhere.
On the coupe there's an antenna in the top of the hatch.
Installing the tint with the hatch up fry's the attenna from water getting in, resulting in no radio reception, and keys becoming almost useless.
So, with coupe, you must find someone who will install with hatch down from the inside.
And with all MBZ, you must not use all metallic tint.
Also you must put felt on inside of front windows (or soft part of velcro works great too) to keep them fropm scratching.
Most tint shops tell you none of these things matter....
Did I mention repairing the attenna requires removing the rear glass?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I waited 5 years to find someone who had a clue,
knew about moleskin, attenna issue, and what type of film to use.
I have lifetime warranty film, partial metal, works great.
Shop knew what they were doing....finally....$300 for front and back.

problem:
i got "brilliant" tint with metallic done at california tint and since then my remote barely responds and my radio is all static
they took off the tint and claim that my car is defective and that its "coincidence" that it happened to stop working after they put the tint in
if i can prove that they are at fault, then they will give me huber optik for the same price.
question:
where is the antenna for the radio and/or remote placed in the c230 coupe?
i am guessing that in the process of putting the tint, that they might have leaked some fluid on the inside of the rear window destroying whatever was back there that was related to my remote and radio reception.
does anyone have experience with this or can help me prove that they @#$ed up my car?
they also claim that they have put the metallic tint on many mercedes before and have NEVER had any problems except for my car. so they think its a problem on my end. but i swear that my radio and remote entry worked fine until they put the tint on.
i am having mercedes look at it tomorrow, but i wont tell mercedes that tint was ever put on it.
any advice is much appreciated
thanks!

Mercedes is gone physically, but still in my heart.
Tons of posts on it, but since you probably won't do the search here's the breakdown:
Metallic tint ALWAYS messes up radio signal and remote range. The signal for those things are on the rear windshield. Some people leave that metallic tint on and just get a signal booster, which rarely works. But there is nothing "defective" about your car, it's simply something that happens with every Mercedes. You have to get ceramic/huber-optik tint in order for it to work. It is recommended that you take the car to a Mercedes/European Car tint specialist, they'll get the job done MUCH more efficiently so you won't have to waste time with people who throw metallic tint on and blame it on you.

WTH! You just posted a topic on this a couple days ago. Now you're starting a whole new thread? For what? I'm merging both.
