New Key Style for my C Class
#576
Apparently on the 6th of February MB increased the price of the key to $140.
I got a email from Jamie over at OEMparts who told me of the increase.
I called my local dealer and they mentioned the price was $140.
which is odd, its over twice as expensive. Guess thats MB for ya

By the way, I just went to his site and re-entered the exact same part #'s and did get the "new" price also. I'm glad I got one when I did, I just wish I'd gotten one more.

Guess I got my order in just in time. I ordered my key and blade on the 3rd and it was $61.58 shipped to my door. I have an order confirmation email but probably won't have the key itself for a week or 2. Hopefully everything goes good.

No Jamie was not undercharging before. Several of us paid around $60 or $70 for the key at dealerships. I was told that it went up at the dealership where I bought it about a week after I got mine. I should have gotten another one then!

Stopped by the shop my car is at today and checked if the key would work and it worked perfectly. At first, it didn't work because the key the shop has was in the ignition (so the alarm buttons weren't working)...LOL.
All the buttons were good, etc... Wish I bought one for my parents car before the prices went up. Oh well.

MB probably doubled the price when they realized the chrome key was such a hot seller when we started buying them.

Well I got my key today and WOW... I luv it!
It looks so much better!
Here is the weird thing, as I previously posted I paid $128 for the key and blade from OEM parts direct. I also got an email stating that the total was $128 for everything...but when I opened the fedex package I found a receipt from the Hammersley Group that stated the total was $61.58! That is the exact same price that most members on this forum got the new key for. So I am just waiting to see what amount gets charged to my credit card....$128 or $61.58???
I am hoping that I only get charged $61.58 but who knows....if I do get charged $128 should I complain???
Either way the service I received from Jamie was awesome and I got my key in just a few days! It was a pleasure doing business with OEM parts direct....
I guess MB didn't raise the price of the new key after all....looks like OEM parts direct just decided to hike up the price to make a little more profit. But who knows???
Once I see the charge for the new key hit my credit card, I will let you guys know what amount it was.

Got my key and blade today! Another great bit of knowledge from this forum!!! It works great straight out of the package. Didn't have to do a thing. The lock, unlock, trunk, panic and key blade all work perfectly. This forum is AWESOME!!! Great information...

I went to go buy the Bluetooth puck for my phone, and the parts guy said it went up by about $60.00. Since I had asked about it, and told him I wanted it days before he gave it to me for the previous price. But MB is raising all there parts prices.

MB raised the price just because of the demand, has nothing to do with the actual dealer that sold the key
a lot of other times this has happened with VW too, hot parts or grills would go from $80 to $400 overnight because of the demand, now that's a huge difference.
i'm glad i got mine at $62 though ;p local dealers would have been rape for sure

So here are the answers summed up:
Yes. you do need to enter the VIN and.. You will need to fax proof of ownership before they will ship.
The key and blade will be programmed and cut for your specific car before they ship. Nothing is required to make it work. Just use and go.
I believe the price went to $140 for the key. Some few managed to get charged the old price even though the new price was going into effect. You are free to see what happens, but expect the bill to be the $140 price.
The key is cool enough to be worth it. Good luck.
