has anyone done this in the dealerships? Do I just go in and ask them to activate the Netherland settings on my car?

i had them do it when my car went in for its first 1000 mile checkup.. that way there was no fee since they already had it hooked up to the computer. do you have a service A or B coming up? get them to do it then, probably won't charge u.

I have checked with Keyes European in Los Angeles and they activated the chirp on the car (love it) for locking and unlocking, however they could not give me an answer on the key yet. I assume that they will be able to make my 06 use the 07 key because before we got the 07 S 550 we had a 00 S 500 with the really big laser key and they swapped it for a key like my 06.

That key looks really good, but it must be really expensive to obtain as I believe some coding needs to be done as well, that can only be done in Germany, someone got more info on this??

The price is going to cost whatever the dealer decides to charge you. It's all up to them.
When the key is ordered, make sure you ask for an "additional" key, that way the ones you still have will continue to work. They will ask for your VIN number, and of course proof that you own the car.
When the key arrives (in a couple of days, usually) it will work straght away. Just make sure that you put it in the ignition first, so that they EIS (electronic ignition switch) will recognize it. After you do that, it will work fine. Don't try to use the key to unlock or lock the car before you put it into the EIS, because it won't work till you do.

Well, I wasted quite a bit of time this morning at the local M-B dealer trying to get the new style key. They did the necessary research on my car, ran the VIN, and determined it was a "Type 3" key, but they wouldn't order the new part number, only the old style key part number. I try to tell them I would take the chance with the new key (since I knew it would work), but they were still afraid of ordering something and having to deal with it if it didn't work. So, no new key from them. I guess I'll order one from the dealer up North posted earlier in the thread.
As far as the chirp function, I asked the dealer to enable that while I was there and the technician said the 2003 C230K did NOT have that option. Nothing to enable. I suspect he was already tired of me and was trying to get me out of there at that point. They are the only dealer in town, so I was trying not to **** them off. I think I failed.
All in all, waste of an hour in my busy day. At least I got to look at their SLR in the showroom.

Have you actually received the key and used it?

Hey guys,
I'm actually getting the key this weekend from my dealership. In fact it was only $100 (compared to $233 for the 'old key'). My dealer was very encouraging about the new key, they were almost 'giving it away'. So I guess it depends on the dealership you go to - I live in New York.
Note: Both prices include programming fees but not taxes. And for the rest who haven't read through the topic; to get the new key all you need is your title (stating the VIN) and your driver's license, and it'll take 5 mins.

On a related note, I see a LOT of these on eBay. How can the seller, if he has one of these keys in hand, tell if it is a Type 3 key? That seems to be the "key" to getting one of these used keys working in my car. If I can get a Type 3 key, I can make it work in my car.
Thanks.

This weekend when I pick up the key all questions will be confirmed/answered. However, from what I was told the key will certainly work with my car (a 2003 C320), and they will do the programming and it'll be working with my car (just a simple 'unlock procedure' before turning the car on) and I will be able to leave with the key working in the car within 5 mins. Also, he's got a couple in stock (no need to order), so I'll ask for you Tony.
It's funny because I really didn't want the key (or wasn't willing to spend money on a new key -- at least not until I get all my other mods done); but the dealership where I brought my car (Lotus, Greenwich), lost the second key - in return they told me to go to Mercedes and get a key and they'll reimburse me. Just my luck that I'll end up with the new key. I was going to give my girlfriend the new key to hold on to (cause I really don't need a 'spare'), but looks like I'll hang on to the new key now!
pmb600 - the dealership is Mercedes of White Plains (New York).

Yes the new keys are standard on all 2007s. I think they look great also, I'm gonna try to get myself one soon and I'm going to look into the Netherlands setting at the same time. The ironic part is that many of the more expensive models now have the Keyless Go option and you probably won't ever take the key out of your pocket for people to see!
