230 Exhuast note

One day, a black c230 or 320 coupe drove by me, and was making a U-Turn. I notice that his exhuast note are very different from mine. It sounded very deep, almost like the AMG's one. Just wondering what he have changed in his car in order to make tat exhuast note. I'll be very intrested on doing that. And also, he have an stock exhuast too from what i can see. Thanks for helping me!!

a C320 sounds much better than a C230K Coupe.
Also, could have removed the resonator, like I have on mine.
I upgraded to the C32 AMG exhaust on my C320 Coupe, and it's the engine that will give it the noise you want, and the exhaust will merely accentuate and resonate.

or you can go and get a coffee-can exhaust and make all the noise in the world !

From what I've read in the past, it seems that the c7 package did not have a resonator like most models...That being said, how exactly do '04 and up owners determine if they have the c7 package or not (to determine whether or not they have a resonator or straight piping - aside from looking at the exhaust system from under the car)?

MB didn't offer the different options w/ this numbering package from '04 - present.

I know I have the C7 package because it is the 'sport' but mainly I think (correct me if im wrong) but I have the 7 spoke wheels and I think only the ones with the C7 package included those wheels. Maybe something else interior wise that im forgetting

Have you heard your car go by? The C230, despite its reputation for being so uncouth, actually sounds quite good from the outside. The exhaust note is not the fart fart from the imports, nor is it the bawah sound you get from a normal four banger. However, the primary sound you here when the hammer is down is the music from the supercharger. Sounds like a jet going by.

BTW, yes, C7 cars have no resonator.

i wouldn't say it was a huge difference. Noticeable, yes. It was a little deeper and throatier, but just accenting what you already get from the 320 V6. With the resonator intact, i'm sure it would have been pretty much the same.

So then I guess it would be a "safe", but not "for sure" assumption that the sport sedans from 04 and up have the C7 package?

Um, no - no real reason to make that jump in logic at all, honestly.

There are many things that someone could do to make their exhaust note sound different, so there's no way to really know what you heard. For example, the Supersprint exhaust looks stock from 5 feet away.

Saprissa just likes to take swipes at the 230, so don't fall into his trap.

Drex - the "C7" package was a bunch of stuff on the ccoupe; having the same wheels doesn't mean that the exhaust on the sedan will be resonatorless - actually, I'd bet against it, since I'd assume that MB would want the sedan to be a little quieter. But I wouldn't bet much.

Ok, good. I was wondering why I was getting so confused. Thank God. I thought I was starting to lose my mind.

Thanks once again, for the moment of clarity, Carlos.

tommy, thanks for the 411. I'm figuring I'll check it out once I decide to get an exhaust system. Still hedging back and forth on what I want to do.

when my wife pulls in her C320 Sport Sedan this afternoon,
i'll poke my head underneath and see if her car has a resonator.

She's getting the C32 AMG exhaust put on pretty soon too, so might as well check now.

I've got an '04 C230 sedan and a lady who parked two cars over from me in my old apartment underground garage bought a 2005 C230 sedan (same color and everything...damn her!). When I heard her start up hers one day, I realized that something must have changed in the exhaust set up from '04 (not 04.5) to '05 because hers sounded much sportier than mine. It was a nice deep tone at idle, compared to my relatively quiet almost non-existent exhaust note. Since then, I've made buying a new exhaust a much higher priority on my modding list.

I doubt it. Its like hearing your own voice for the first time. You don't hear what the car actually sounds like when youre in it.

my friend has Brabus exhaust on his 2003 230k sedan. It sounds great, but my other friend with the C240 with the same exhaust just sounds soo much better. I think it mainly has to do with the displacement of the engine.

No, seriously...Sometimes my wife drives my car so I've heard the exhaust note from the outside. Mine is so much quieter.

Can anybody confirm?

Nobody with a Sport Sedan has done any exhaust mods yet or removed the resonator?

Anybody?

ctC230K, where've you been? Did you feel any difference with the K&N? I know that's one of the first things you did.

FYI - I'm pretty sure there's been a few people posting their used Eisenmann's for sale in the Classifieds.
