New 05 C230SS Oil Leak after only 1300 Miles

After only 1300 miles on my new 05 C230SS, I open up the hood after waxing my car yesterday and I found this:

I thought it was the Oil Cap but I never touched it. I only have 1300 miles and had the car since June 4, 2005. I called up the dealer and am bring it in tomorrow to see whats going on. Hope I can get the dealer to get me a car replacement if this is serious.

I just can't believe the oil spray is like everywhere. How would you guys feel if you bought a new car only to find a mess like this?

Anyway, I called MBUSA on this and they wanted to Tow the car away at the dealers expense but the dealer told me to drive it to the shop because no warning messages came up on the Dash. I could care less because I don't know when this happened and what ever damage is done is done within 1300 miles. I did check the Oil Level and it everything was fine, nothing needed to be added. I was wondering if it is coming from one of the lines or gasket.

Well, I'm dropping the car off tomorrow morning and see what happens. I love this car but hope to get a 2006 replacement if that's the alternative. I doubt it but anything is possible.

When they're done fixing it make sure they detail the engine.

i remember seeing this exact problem (with almost identical pictures) about a year ago on this forum on a 2004 C230K, and then again about 6-7 months ago on a 2005 C230K. I don't remember what the cause was, because honestly i don't care much for the C230K engine, but i do remember reading those threads and looking at pictures very similar to those posted here.

It's a Benz, you'll get used to it.

Since the warning light didn't go off, I wouldn't be too quick to think it's anything major yet. I'm not really understanding why you didn't just try the cap to see if it was loose.

Oil

Oil is like blood, a little goes a long way. From what your picture showed it didn't appear to be anything near what would cause a problem for your engine.

Something looks rotten in denmark (no digs against the EU!) but I would tend to agree with driving it in.

You guys are like men with a new baby. Afraid it's going to break! <s>

True, I'd drive it in....that's what a warranty is for if the thing throws a rod on the way in.

Alright, I'm back from the Dealer and got my car back. They told me I had a bad rubber gasket on the oil cap which may have been the cause of the oil leak. I still don't believe it but I can't argue with them.

Anyway, I also found out that my turn signals had a problem on the mirrors. They didn't seem too bright and also one of the leds was not working. They told me that they needed to change the harness and update the computer which was a factory defect they said. They ordered the part and I should have them install it next week.

Oh yeah, they cleaned up the engine but it wasn't the detailing that I wanted which costs $59.99 for a full engine detail. Guess I will try it next time.

Back on the road again. Hope I don't have anymore problems but who knows, it's a Benz!

You guys are freakin lucky. This is my first experience with Benz and this isn't good. They didn't really clean the engine that well so I detailed the engine myself and wiped off all the oil residue off the hoses.

After this experience I will definitely buy the extended warranty which I have a year to do so. I didn't have to pay a dime for this and was lucky. Thank goodness for warranty!

I guess Benz cars have more issues with electrical and minor flaws than they have on their bullet proof engines.

you got me concerned, so I popped the hood to check things out (I had only opened it once before, like 10k miles ago). No drama, luckily

GASP! You opened your hood? J/K. When we picked up this car, the dealer said that we would never have to open the hood as the computer display woudl keep us informed.

Computer didn't keep me informed of my spillage Thank goodness I wanted to detail the rubber trim between the hood and fenders or I would have kept the spillage until 10K miles.

i open my hood about 3-4 times a week....

just because I can ! and in full upright service vertical position too at that !

if I were you guys and depended on the "car's computer" to tell you anything, i would check fluid levels, tire pressure, brake wear and other variables, rather than wait to hit 10-13k miles.

My dealer even went as far as to say that there were dipsticks or anything else that we could examine. Funny guy.

No issues with the motor here. And mine's that ugly, red headed stepchild from the SLK.
