BRAKE Pad, Rotors, & Calipers Discussion Thread (OEM, aftermarket, etc...)
Where did you purchase them from?
I'm getting fairly close to needing new pads and so I'm trying to decide whether to go with OEM or Porterfields (especially since I have the 4 piston calipers in front w/ Cross-drilled rotors). Would you fill me in on your experiences with OEM now vs. Porterfields then?
Thanks in advance.

Since the front brakes are the AMG 4 piston calipers (w/ Mercedes Benz logo), I'm wondering if the pads for the front should be AP847 or AP872 for the Porterfield R-4S pads? The AP847 pads are specified for the C32 brakes. The rear pads seem to be easier to determine.

As for comparing the Porterfields on my 2002 with the AMG style brakes on my 2004.5. Like I said, dusting was similar. The AMG brakes stop about the same as the stock brakes but don't overheat and fade as quick although 99% of my driving, I can't tell a difference, mostly when driving in the mountains going downhill where I notice the less fade. MB did come out with a special low dust pad but it could be the parts dept that's ignorant of what's available, afterall, if they knew how to work on cars they wouldn't be in the parts dept. You almost have to walk in with part numbers to get what you want.
PS. I get my Porterfield pads in Costa Mesa, CA directly from Porterfields, no waiting.

I can buy them for $153 for front and $81 for the rear. Is that a good price?
I installed them on my C320, they stop like the original pads but they squeal, can't wait to replace them !
Also try a search.
There are a bunch of folks that make brake pads for our Mercedes'
A few things I've noticed since the install (even though I really haven't tested them, due to my normal habit of "break-in time" for any performance pads - I usually give it 150 miles, before really testing)
- R4-S pads are softer when cold (braking power isn't instant, i.e. more pressure needed)
- When heated up, the pads grip very tightly, so braking style needs to adjust.
- Brake paste put on pads works wonders (little if any squeaking). The squeaking that is there is most likely due to break in period.
- Considerably less brake dust than OEM.
About the brake dust in the front, is it significantly less on the wheels? I have to clean my wheels everytime I go out for a few miles.
Thanks
