Oil change and service indicator reset related question.

I just did my oil change earlier today and reset the FSS Service indicator in the display, but the oil level indicator in the display doesn't tell me if the oil level is okay. It still says "Perform service on time". I want to figure out if I poured enough oil in there. I was able to fill 8 bottles of used oil and poured in 8.5 quarts, so I'm guessing it's pretty close. But I still want to have the oil level indicator reset. Usually it says "Oil level OK". Is there something I have to do for that or will it adjust by itself?

Thanks.

I believe you need to follow the oil level indicator procedure. Leave the car off for 30 minutes or so and than put the key on the on position, turn the message display to the oil level indicator and let the computer do the measuring for a few seconds. You can check the manual for more detailed instructions.

You can do as razorfish suggested. You can also follow his procedure and then go into the dyno mod for a more detailed count of your oil level.

My dealer has not been able to put more than 8 quarts in my 3.2L engine. After oil changes at the dealer, I frequently find they fill less than the prescribed 8 quarts (7.4 or so), so I have to go back and complain til they top off. If you have 8.5 qts in there, you may expect to see the oil overfull MFD warning at some point, and you'll need to siphon some out.

Once you reset the meter, I think you are supposed to get the "perform service on time" notice. Can someone else confirm?

See my posts in the following threads on how to enter dyno mode to measure the oil exactly...

I checked the oil level through the instrument cluster again today. I guess it adjusted itself or resetted itself. It measured it and said "oil level o.k.". I was able to pump out quite a bit of oil, so I'm not sure how well 8.5 quarts is going to sit. It didn't read that there was too much oil yet. I'll check again after I drive around a bit today. It might actually be too much =)

If it continues to read o.k., I guess I don't really have to go into dyno mode to check it.

Thanks!
