Hey I'm about to go out and do an oil change on mine. These are great little cars, I was worried when I bought it in 2005, that they would be a handful of problems every day. It's been more reliable than my VW Jetta or my Buick Regal, (Although it does tend to eat tires.
)

Did you change timing chain? or is the timing chain original?
235,xxx miles on your C230 - impressive! My wife has a C230 and it has only 83,xxx miles, we hope to keep that car beyond 200k miles.

Yeah I bought it new September 19, 2005 with 62 miles on the clock. Original timing chain and supercharger, replaced some suspension components, two alternators, two trans mounts, belt tensioner twice, vacuum pump, shocks & struts, four sets of brakes, and thats about it. I drive about 100 miles a day (workday ) with mixed of city/hiway @ 30/70. I'm up to 254000 now, and I had to get another set of tires last weekend, which is pretty much an anual thing for me...

No, my car is every 13K miles. Kinda threw me off when I bought my wife a 2010 GLK and they switched to 10K interval. My service rep said they did it to make it easier for customers...
My wife now has a 2003 G500 ( which is awesome ) and its has a flexible service, that I have seen go as little as 9500 mikes all the way to 16K...
As always running Mobil 1.

2012 C250C Sport Coupe; 2008 c-300 4M
Could've kept it for 10 more years
2004 C230k SS, got it new and drove it for 10 years. Other than regular maintenance, I replaced the alternator at 80k miles, engine/tranny mounts at 120k miles and shocks and struts at 150k miles. I traded it in last month for a new C250 sport Coupe, clock showed 187,000 miles and it still looked new and drove like a champ. I could easily have kept it for 100k more miles, this was a rock-solid vehicle in every possible way.

01 c240- 172500 miles. i have replaced plugs and wires and coil packs plus the serpentine belt and the MAF sensor.I have aligned the front end as well.
Looks like i have a bad brake light switch i need to change this week and my srs light just came on. otherwise, this cars has been reliable. The interior has held up fair with the passenger wood trim coming off the door panel and the drives door interior handle coming off. the curtain in the rear window has always been a pain and doesn't work now. and the drivers seat came apart(off the frame). But for a soon to be 15 year old car, it runs well, leaks little and drives straight.

I had a C270 (2005) and did 251,000 miles - Had its last service at around 100,000 miles and since then only ever topped the oil when low and fixed the odd bit on the suspension at MOT time. The car eventually gave up telling me a service was due every mile and updated every 500. It was still running like a train when I traded it in (wife's decision not mine!)
and another point to note - in the equivalent to 10 times around the world it only ever had the back box of the exhaust replaced once, discs once and pads around 3 times. Truly awesome

So after around a month from posting here, my car (c230k 2005) just hit 125k miles. Im about to change oil and battery , the latter has never been changed its the OEM one that came from the factory , it held pretty good ive never seen a battery thatd hold up 5+ yrs. I also changed the front and rear brakes with front rotors and 2 lower control arms since my car sits pretty low on 18s but thats not an issue. The car is holding up good so far , almost new interior and still have the original paint , only painted the front and rear bumpers 2 yrs ago. Gonna keep this car till next year then probably buy a c63 amg 2012.

My last battery on my 2001 C320 was a trooper, it lasted 7 years and it wasn't even OEM. The guy who came out and changed it said it was nothing short of a miracle that it could still crank the engine.
Thankfully my engine has been invincible as well, it was neglected very badly by the previous owner but its still running perfectly. The M112 deserves its reputation for being bombproof.

2005 Kompressor Sport with 171,500 miles on it. Orion Blue Metallic Paint and black interior are immaculate! No serious work noted other than replacing the suspension from a summer of potholes in Boston!

Posaune,
Congratulations on your mileage! Have you changed the oil in your supercharger? Did you replace your timing chain?

ncmudbug,
I have not changed the oil in the S/C or replaced the timing chain. Car runs like a top and inspect it thoroughly every 5,000 miles while replacing oil every 10,000 miles.

Currently at 93,300 on 05' C230K SS. Bought it last year for $9K w/ 85,XXX miles. It's been my favorite car thus far. My only major concern as of this point is the timing chain in the M271...since I get the all-so-famous 2-3 second chatter noise upon a cold start-up. Other than that, the car runs strong.
Out of EVERYONE on this thread with the M271, who has actually changed their timing chain????? (with the exception of Posaune, previous msg)

The only reason I changed it was because on 2 occasions, while idling during the Summer with the A/C on max, car in Drive, but stopped for extended period (long traffic light), the car jerked a little bit forward, and then I got a red warning on the MFD with a battery picture and the following message:
Battery
Alternator
Visit
workshop.
Based on comments in this thread, I went ahead and changed it:

Saw your youtube video on your engine startup
My 2005 C230K SS was doing the same exact thing right around the same miles as yours (you: 89K miles, me: 86K miles). Let me warn you now: CHANGE THAT TIMING CHAIN ASAP!! Some might say the noise is related to the camshaft adjusters, but more than likely your chain is stretched like mine was.
My video:
That was the worst I had ever heard on my car.
I didn't get to it in time, so below, in the thread link is a sobering and very expensive moment in my M-B life (think engine replacement):

Bought my 2004 C230 on June 9th, 2004 and now have 94K miles on it. Haven't had too many problems with it other than replacing a few O2 sensors and a MAF just recently. But it is all most likely due to the leak cam sensors that were also worked on under warranty in 2011.

Thank you for taking a look. I believe I read your thread before, as I've scoured the internet for as many answers as I can regarding this TC issue. I just don't get it. Some people on this thread have the same engine and have NEVER changed their chain (and they're over 200K miles??). I'm sorry to hear about the hell you had to go through. To be honest, it's been my fear for a long while ever since finding out about this issue.
Glyn has given me the advice as well to change TC and fit a new tensioner. Not that I'm being bullish, it's just, like you, I've been given the same jargon from local Indys, "It's not the timing chain, just the noisy cam adjusters. I say you're fine".
Mechanically, I've become very comfortable working on my Rosa (That's her name). I've done vacuum pump, spark plugs, window washer pump, changed oil, wet-sand/clearcoat headlights, replaced air-box housing, all filters, lights, rear brakes, conditioned interior, replaced head unit with another factory unit due to peeling (Thanks RWDLifer), etc... I could go on and on. Point is, I love my car. I will even stretch it to say (pun intended) I like it more the the newer models too.
But... The timing chain is out of my league. However, it needs to be done. Advice like yours only confirms my fears.
I talked with the old man about it since I've exhausted all of my resources and he contacted a local guy who knows MB. He'll help me replace the chain for minimal cost. I've got a pretty good deal I've been looking at on for the kit: eeuroparts.com http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/5424...-2710500611S2/
Only problem I'll have to make the 8 hour drive down to FL to do the job. I guess it's a good reason to see the rents..
Thanks again for taking the time to reply, man. It's humbling to see other guys out there like you (and everyone else out there) take so much pride in your Benz like I do. I love this forum. I'll make sure to take pictures of the job and share it with everyone else for educational purposes. I've gotta give back somehow.
Ps - If there any additional purchasing advice for parts for the job, besides the kit and valve cover gaskets, please let me know if applicable. Thanks

Update- 278xxx miles just got it out of the shop for bad gas. New fuel pumps and five hours of labor and everything is fine. Even after running it on 2-3 cyllinders for about 6 miles just to get somewhere I felt the tow truck driver would screw up my car... Still on original timing chain btw.

Original timing chain on 278K?? That must be an anomaly, because apparently they all stretch on the M271. Have you never gotten the start-up rattle?
