Pioneer DVD/Nav Unit in an 05 C230 SS
is it a bad idea to put a DVD/Navigation headunit in these cars??? I had one in my 2003 Chevrolet Z71 1500 ext cab and just bought an 05 C230 SS and was wondering if any type of warranties are going to be voided because of a new head unit. Also is it expensive to get these head units installed in Mercedes?? Do I need lots of extra parts???

Any aftermarket parts installed should void warranty only if dealer can prove malfunction was due to installed parts in most cases....at least thats what I heard from everyone. I have had mine installed and have no problems with getting stuff done at service. As for what extra parts u need, you will have to buy a CANBus adaptor. I do not remember which website I got mine from, but its made by soundgate and was $200. When you want to install the unit, my suggestion is you find a shop that knows Mercedes. My installer had no idea where to hook up the CANbus adaptor, took him 1 week and still couldnt figure out (resulted in no speed reading, Navigation was off and could not route). Luckily there are some very helpful fellows here that helped me out. Do some search here and I am sure you can find something useful.

Actually you don't need the CANBUS adaptor, at least if your car still has the same electronics setup as the 02-04s (should, but they may have changed something for some reason). Search for "speed wire" or "speed sensor" and you'll find threads that will direct you to a box under the fusebox under the hood where the #3 pin is the one you are looking for. The only two other things you need to worry about are the parking brake wire and the reverse wire (basically the reverse light wire).
The biggest hurdle you face in the beginning AFAIK is the dash kit for the '05s. I've heard people complaining about not having a dash kit for that model (the 02-04 dash is different). I would square that away before beginning.
I was thinking of putting in a Pioneer NAV in. If I do it, I'll post something up on it. In any event, let us know how it goes.

I have the AVIC-N2 installed in my 2003 c320, but I dont think they have a kit for the 05s and up yet, but I remember someone customizing it, and maybe u can have dimensions and build ur own box, but u gota get new cables, the original MB ones are fiber optic, so it might be a pain in the butt, the steering wheel controls wont work unless u put a compatible interface, then the radio wont work well either, havnt found out a answer to that one yet, but I advise u to get the Eurospec NAV
