I wish they made them light up like the 05's do. That way only the LEDS would light up on braking so they will not be in use as much. Still waiting for Drex to sit down one night and break out the soldering iron.

I'll probably end up getting the non LED version and rewire them like mike/Ekimpay did. I have been wanting to do this mod for a while now just too lazy to order the older connectors.

The LED running lights, it looks even better if you swap the bulb placement. Where you currently have the running light on the bottom (inside bottom), you can actually swap the sockets and it looks even better than how you currently have it. Take a look at my pics in my Yahoo pic site. I didn't take down the LED taillight pics from before.

I am supposed to be working on a project that will allow for the running lights to function a-la the OEM 2005 lights, but haven't gotten a chance to do that.

Just an FYI, I had these LED lights before and they only lasted 1 year. After 1 year, the LED's started to go.

The ONLY reason there are running lights on the top LED's is because of the manufacturer wanting a "different" look to them. Unfortunately, I think it's part of what contributes to the LED's going bad.
how??

Sockets on the bottom are exactly the same, so the current socket that is on the inside, you just put it in the socket hole for the outside running light.

That way, you have the bottom-outside running light (just like OEM 2001-2004.5) and the inside fog light.

But how will that light up the whole bottom row? Isn't the fog light in the back white?

I have no idea either, it's drexappeal that knows what he's doing. I'm still waiting on my LED tails to arrive.

No, it won't get you the whole back row. It's just a swap to put the rear fog bulb where it should be (inside left) and have the running lights on the bottom-outside portion of the lights. It's VERY, VERY simple folks. You're all making it way too complicated.

Okay, take a look at the taillight assembly. There are 2 sockets on the bottom (inside/outside). Let's start with the left taillight assembly. If you turn on the rear fog light bulb (on the LED S-Class taillights), the outside bulb will light up. That is supposed to be on the inside, SO, you take out that socket and take out the Inside socket and swap. So the socket that is currently on the outside-bottom, goes in the inside bottom hole. The socket that is in the inside-bottom gets placed in the outside-bottom.

Now, you have running lights on the outside-bottom of the taillights.

This is why I said early on in this thread to take a look at my picture threads in my signature. Here are some links of the taillights:

Do you see how the running light on the bottom is illuinated on the outside and not the inside? That's because I swapped the sockets, so that the lights light up how the 2001-2004.5 running lights are in the OEM taillights.

I'm supposed to work on a project that lights up the entire bottom row (like the 2005) and keeps the functionality of the rear foglight. FrankW had tapped into the running light wire, so that the bottom row lights up, however, he also lost functionality of the rear foglight. I'll post pics in the S-Class taillight thread when I get to that.

Yeah, all you do is swap the connectors. So now my fog light hits on the inside. + With the aftermarket lights, all the socket locks are the same. I also ordered a set of the regular s tails smoked w/o led, and see which ones i like better. Gotta buddy who whats either pair so i wont be outta the dough.

But yes to answer you question it was really simple, sorry i had a blond moment back there.

Oh okay, I see. Yeah, I see how it would look much better on the outside. After the swap, will the running lights be visible from the side of the car?

Look at your running lights now. They will look exactly the same (except for the top LED lights). Thing is, the LED's they use are not very good and won't last very long. Mine lasted me 1 year.

The tail light looks completely different, regardless of the lights.

I'm talking 'bout the bottom running lights genius. Don't argue with me cuz I've had all three (i.e. 2001-2004.5 OEM, S-Class LED and S-Class Regular bulb). If you search on the forum, you'll find a long thread that has way more information than on this one. I just haven't merged this thread yet, cuz it was someone posting about their new taillights.

I might merge now.
