Talking C class pricing

I will confirm this later today, but as of now the pricing for 2003 C class models are actually going to be cheaper than the 2002 models...the C class coupe is remaining the same, but the C240 will go down about 600-700 bucks and the C320 about 1700 bucks...I will try to confirm later today, but you guys should check with your dealers for further confirmation......plus I heard there are special 4matic packages for about 2400 bucks that include 4matic, sunroof and other options in a nice bundle....will check on that for you guys as well

Since there is some decontenting of the cars for 2003, including a 6 speed as standard equipment of the C320, these price sound about right.

Talking

Hi All!!!
I am a new member to this forum and hope to be purchasing the new C240. I am glad to hear that the car may be less expensive since I gave up a new 2002 C240 at a unbelievable price. Please keep me posted

No, Fuzzo, it is not because of the changer. That is still an option. Some things that used to be standard equipment are now optional. One example is the auto-dimming mirrors. In the case oh the 320, the six speed will be standard. The auto transmission is now a $1300 option and the base price has been lowered $1300.

Not too sure if this is accuarate information about the price being the same or going down for 2003. I have seen an official Merecedes bulletin here on the forum that was sent to dealers that has the C230K up just a touch under $1000 for 2003 (I think it was $980 or something). Also, several items such as self-dimming mirrors are now options. So, do not hold your breath that prices are going to go down. Now, I have no idea about the C240 or C320.

Best regards,

CP

Hmmm....a six-speed C320, looks like Mercedes really wants to steal some BMW customers. I wonder how it will stack up to the BMW 330i in performance?

Question, is the 330ci really that much faster? A typical BMW driver (at least one of the typical ones I always see...) raced me in my c230k coupe about a week ago. Wasn't fair though, he didn't give any intention of racing until after the light turned green...needless to say, of course he won, but not by much because he couldn't shift the stupid thing and only beat me because he had a head start...I must say he made a lovely grinding noise though when he missed his shift into second gear. Ha...anyway, he chickened out around 90 and I passed him, turns out we were going to the same place and that's how I knew it was a 330ci, but he wouldn't talk when we parked...I think his ego was bruised, that and probably didn't want to be reminded of his poor shifting...anyway, I can't imagine the C320 having a problem keeping up w/ one of these unless I'm misinformed?

The 330Ci has 2.93 rear gears vs. 3.23 on the Coupe so the advantage there is to the Coupe, they weigh about the same with a slight advantage to the Bimmer, the Bimmer outshines the Coupe in HP at 225 vs. 192 and 214 ft-lbs torque vs. 200 (but over a much wider range so to me it's pretty close). So the advantage may fall to the 330Ci in stock form. Add a billet crank pulley to the coupe and now you are at about 230 HP and 245 ft-lbs torque and with the better gear ratio you have the clear advantage unless it's a 330Cxi with a manual trans, then he can launch faster than you because no wheel spin with 4 wheels grabbing pavement so he can drop the clutch at 3,000 rpm with no problems, you do that and your wheels will spin too long and you lose.

Like you said, when cars are that close, the winner is usually the better driver and not the fastest car. Sometimes in drag racing the automatic has the edge because it doesn't require any real skills to drag race an automatic, press pedal and go.

the 330i is faster than the C320 and the C230.

Look at any magazine like R&T or Motor Trend where they have the tables with all the car info.

330i = 0-60 6.1 sec
C320 0-60 7.0
C230 0-60 7.2

Don't put too much stock in the car magazines. All the cars are not tested by the same driver with the same technique under the same conditions.

Yeah right! The worst case is that maybe the times are off by .2 of a second. Even with that margin of error the 330 would still be slightly quicker. However, the C320 should be closer if they come out with a 6-speed manual. Think about how fun it would be to drive with a Kleemann blower!

Yeah, why is it always the owners of the slower cars who point out how the rags are inaccurate?

I'm really interested to see how the c320 does for '03. I'm hoping that it takes away more sales from the 330i with the intro of the manny. It also might push some others who might otherwise buy c240s or c230s into c320s, which I'm sure MB would be happy with.

The magazine I saw showed the BMW 330i automatic at 7.1 very similar to the C320 (July issue of Car and Driver, Hobson's Choice). The ones that can do a 6 second 0-60 are the BMW 330xi manuals and that's because they rev them high and drop the clutch at max torque and the 4 wheel drive prevents wheel spin. There is no other reason, no silver bullet that can make 330i automatic 1 full second faster to 60 than a C320, let alone a C230 with an ASP pulley. It's just wishful thinking for the folks from Munchen.
