C230 vs Cadillac CTS

Hi guys,

I am currently debating between a Cadillac and Mercedes. I liked both cars. I am getting a better deal on Cadillac but Mercedes is Mercedes. I wanted to your opinions. I think Mercedes is also more to insure. Thanks

never asssume anything when it comes to insurance. I will almost bet the caddy will be more to insure. You should call your insurance company and make sure. BTW, go with the Mercedes cause it's a Mercedes and that's all that needs to be said.

I will always have a German car. The mercedes carries a certain prestiege and will undoubtly have a better resale value than the Caddie when you come to trade it in. Then again it's your money, and if you are worried regarding the costs to insure the car then have your insurance company give you the figures on each car so then you can compare the two and see which one falls within your budget.

To give you an idea, it costs me $10 more a month to insure a 2006 Mercedes instead of the 2000 Civic. There are a lot of factors when it comes to the insurance cost of a car.

That's insane! I never would ever guess that a Benz would only be $10/month more to insure. Wow.

well i'm sure it's not like that for everyone. I have a great insurance company and I've been with them for 11 years and only one claim. For instance a few years ago I was looking into the evo and the sti. When it comes right down to it they are almost the same car in safety and performance. It costs a hell of a lot more to insure the Suby over the Mitsu. I also used to have a 95 Camaro and a 95 civic dx (base model) guess which cost more to insure.

C'mon guys. That's not exactly an apples to apples comparison. The Benz is a lot more expensive that most domestic cars.

I'd happily drive a new 300C, CTS, Vette, Solstic, Aura, Sky, Mustang, Charger, etc....I got a ride in a G6 Coupe the other night that my friend just bought...I liked it. Its a very unique looking car. Ok, the car could use more HP, but nobody here in a C240, C230 or C320 is really in a position to brag about there cars power anyway.

A cool car is a cool car, regardless of where it comes from. Unless its a Honda....that's boring on any continent.

Anyway, back on topic...I think I'd get the CTS over the C230 sedan. Its bigger, faster, and based on resale prices I see, its holding its value better. OTOH, both cars are due for a new design in the next year or so, might be better to wait or find something else. The spy photos of W204 haven't been promising, but the new CTS is supposedly going to be a fastback...with even more radical sheetmetal. We'll see I guess.

I test drove an RSX-S just before I bought my coupe, and although I didn't really like it, I did get a quote from my insurance agent on it anyway. Its almost 400 bucks a year more than the Benz.

A cool car IS a cool car as long as you like and and it makes you happy, even if it is a honda. The S2000 is a fun car, so is the TL, RL and the NSX. An S2000 and NSX are far from boring. Bottom line, don't buy a car to make someone else other that yourself happy.

I personally wouldn't go with the CTS. Exterior is nice, but the boxy style isn't for everyone. The interior design choices, especially with the center console and the auto shifter, really need to be rethought, IMO.

However, that being said, the V6 230 engine has garnered little praise in comparison to the I4 that used to be the powerplant for the C230. If you're willing to bump up to the C350, I think you'll be much happier.

i don't like the way the CTS looks, especially the big tail lights. They are just too big. They should have made it like a baby STS because the STS looks a whole lot better. According to the car magazines, Cadillac will launch a redesigned CTS next year.

I bet if you lived in the "Motherland" you would by a domestic car!

I test drove the C230 V6 6MT at the AMG meet at MBUSA last weekend... And to be honest, I was quite surprised by its performance. Off the line it was'nt as good as the I4, but not bad, but mid range was quite fun, esp in third! I didnt get a chance to test the handling because well its been raining here for over a week. Seattle is out, NYC is the new Seattle!!! WOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo (cabin fever!)

domestic cars never hold value over time...even in one year the price dramatically goes down.

GO MERCEDES!

C230K vs. CTS

I personally like the C230K better (Coz i own one)

Kinda raced w/ a CTS 4hrs ago (both auto). We didnt' power brake, the CTS pulled harder off the line (for about half car length) and stay there, torque matters. Then i hit around 50mph and i got to make a right, so i slowed down.

Seems like the CTS got a longer 1st and 2nd, even it got 220hp, the extra 250lbs would allow my 189hp engine to keep up w/ him, at least didn't lose him much. CTS 220hp 220ft-lbs 0-60 6.85sec is about right, I would say it can stay in 2nd to hit 60 while the C230K Auto would shift to 3rd at around 52mph before going to 60. I will bring mine in for Service A tomorrow and i will probably get a C240 loaner, will try to try out the difference of the SOHC 2.7 18-valve V6, and the DOHC 1.8 16-valve I4 SC.

Regarding resell value, i would say both CTS and C230K won't hold the value much. The 05 C230K are selling for $3000 below invoice now in S.CA.

call your insurance agent or company and have them run you a quote on both cars. it takes them 5 minutes. i know b/c i'm in the insurance and finance business and sell property and casualty insurance as well. my insurance went up $200 a year with the benz over my bmw 330 coupe.

Well, it's not really fair to say that the STI and the regular EVO is the same car in performance. The STI would be comparable to the EVO MR, but not a regular EVO. The comparable Subarau to the EVO would be the WRX.

Only reason I know is that my cousin has an EVO MR and he explained this to me just a few weeks ago. So in that sense, I can understand why the STI would be more to insure than the regular EVO, plus the fact that the STI is more expensive.

But I understand the point you were trying to make. I'm just amazed that Benz doesn't carry a higher rate than quite a few of some manufacturers that have been mentioned in this thread.

there are several different factors insurance companies use to determine rates. EVO was fairly new a few years ago, so still hadn't had a track record yet for determining its rates. probably why it was less expensive over the STI. WRX is recognized as a fairly quick car and popular with the younger crowd. another reason for higher premiums. Civic is a highly stolen car for it's parts so it's gonna have a higher premium. however a C230 is slow, difficult to steal and has a low theft record but have more expensive than average repairs when in an accident. if a car is more or less expensive to insure, there's always a reason for it. Underwriters are there to protect the companies.

imo, if the CTS-V cost just as much as the regular CTS, id go for the CTS-V over C230
but just c230 and CTS... C230 hands down!
