cost of air con evaporator
The agents have just told me that my air conditioning evaporator in the dash has a leak; the cost is $ 1,100.00 for the part and labour is $ 500.00 to replace this part. Fortunately I only have to pay the first 20%.
However an evaporator is a simple static part with no working parts or electronics how can it cost so much and are they prone to giving trouble. I have a 2003 c class coupe
I live in South Africa, co I would love to know the cost of this part in the USA.
Thanks
Antony

I found the evaporator online for $603 US the first check I made. Then let an independentput it in. I also remember reading about sealants you can put in the AC system to plug leaks....depending on how bad the leak is and where it occurs. Worth a try. Feel lucky though... some MB models need complete dash removal to replace the evaporator and the total cost is $5K US if done by MB!

now that is the problem, MB says the whole dash needs to be removed.
I don’t know how the warranty works in the USA but in South Africa if your car is between 2-3 years old you have to pay 20% of the repair costs.
