any good alternate use for garage door opener?
Anyone have an alternate use for the garage door opener buttons on the rearview mirror? I have a one-car garage, home to bicycles, wheelbarrow and power saws, that I'll never drive into, so I'm wondering if there's something else that uses "rolling code" programming, say, a way to turn on the lights in the house, perhaps?

Now this could be an interesting thread. Any EE's in the house? Barring that level of invention, I can't see why it couldn't control an X10 device.
The HomeLink.com faq seems to support this:
What other capabilities does HomeLink have besides operating garage doors?
HomeLink will activate/deactivate home/office lighting and small appliances; lock/unlock entry door locks; and open/close gates.
Where can I purchase HomeLink compatible products?
Home/Office Lighting: Visit your local RadioShack or Sears retail outlet for compatible lighting products or contact us for additional information or to purchase a HomeLink Lighting Package.
Appliances: Contact us to get details on how you can activate small appliances using your HomeLink.
Gates: Refer to the Yellow Pages of your local telephone directory under "Gates" or "Gate Operators."

You can use Homelink to interface with Lutron's "Radio RA" whole house lighting package - I have it in my house : www.lutron.com

Eddie, very interesting thread. I'd be curious if the homelink can be utilized for anything else, also.

Since then, I added a number of outlet adapters to facilitate turning on the Christmas lights in 12 windows, but I had a feeling I wasn't fully realizing its potential.
BTW...Your avatar is the stuff! I wonder how many youngsters on here actually remember 45's (and I'm not even that old, but old enough to remember)! Sweet!

Just to keep on subject of Eddie's thread, maybe an adaptor can be spliced in, in order to use the Homelink to turn it on
