supercharger going bad
My Eaton blower's bearings are starting to scream like a prison *****. I've Googled for rebuilders and found a few sources-suggestions? Anybody D.I.Y. the change? Any techs with r&r tips?

Maybe a little early, at 77,000 miles, but I never expected it to last much beyond 100k. The SLK forum doesn't have much, but there is a discussion of oiling. It's not clear to me if the oil is part of the engine's system, or a closed system. If it is closed there is nothing about checking it or maintaining it in the FM. I've been down this road before with a '95 Buick Riviera equipped with a similar Eaton blower, but it had provisions for checking and adding GM supercharger lube.

No big rutro, my attitude is good on this one. At some point any blower is a maint. item. I'm just glad that Benz didn't engineer their own blower, this is one job that can be done at Pontiac prices. An Eaton is an Eaton. It looks like about a grr and a half.

Eaton Rebuild
Sorry if I'm late about this but, I had an Eaton blower rebuilt by Moss Motors in California. It was off of my Miata but they send it out for R&R. How many miles on your car? The bearings are permanently lubed with a synthetic oil and if no leaks should last the life of the bearings, about 100,000 miles. Mine ( Miata )was done at 70,000 miles because it developed a leak just after I changed the bearing oil, stupid me !! Is the noise from the SC or maybe an idler bearing?? Noises do seem to travel under the hood. Good Luck !
