Discoloration on window trim?

I have a 2005 C230K and am experiencing some discoloration on the exterior. It looks like the window trim and another piece on the roof the extends from the A-pillar to the rear. My car is black and the discoloration looks like a rainbow. Very similar if you poored gas/oil in water to get that rainbow hue. Is this normal? Can it be buffed out?

Can't really picture what you're talking about. Any possiblity you have pics of exactly what you're referring to?

I'll try to take some pics this week. It's the portion of the exterior right below the window and a long strip of bodywork on the top of the roof next to the window. I guess it's hard to explain.

I have that too. When I had my car waxed, the area on the roof came out. the parts that extend to the front windshield still has it so its still annoys the hell out of me.

You do realize that you're posting a response in a w203 forum and your sig clearly rips on every C-class owner in here which make up the majority of the 29,000+ mbworld members, right?

Ive had this problem as well. From what I can tell, it occurs when you apply something like wax or some sort of shiner (tire shine). Some full service car washes apply that stinkin tire shine to anything they see that is black. These surfaces arent made for that, so hence the discoloration. I havent been able to solve the issue, so if there is anyone that can, that would be great...

I would rather drive a C-Class than a dated 10 year old S-Class that was bought used.

I bet he goes on e46 and has the same sig regarding the old 7 series...

I have the same problem right now... black car too. I have had it before on another black car and I remember my detailer was able to get it out using something that he said was mainly for getting rid of hard water stains (when people leave their cars parked in front of sprinklers every day). Gonna see if I can dig up his number and give him a call...... hopefully he can shed some light on this matter.

On my '02 I have never had that problem once. I ususally just go over the areas with the rag that I use for my window cleaning. I never have sprayed anything directly on the trim pieces, I just go over them with what is in the cloth. The pieces along the windshield, across the roof and down the doors are shiny and good as new. I have seen this problem on many different brands of cars in the past. I saw a Lincoln LS the other day with hideous "rainbowed" trim.

Use Plexus spray polish

Plexus spray polish is perfect for all that black crap; it was designed for aircraft plastics. Use it on headlights, taillights, any plastic. It cleans the clear bra on the front, if you have that; it even cleans glass. I purchased mine at an auto detail supply store.

wassup guys
i had a problem with this on my car. i took the car in and complained and i got it fixed under warranty. free rental car and everything just for the new trim lol.. as a matter of fact, mercedes will replace almost anything aesthetic but u have to complain about it. this, of course, only works within the 50k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. so yeah, take ur cars in guys new trim and everything.. i even had my carbon fiber door trims replaced for free too! lol :p

Once they replace everything you have to take better care of it though.
