Weight

I have a question about the weight of the C230 K weight. I noticed that compared to cars of the same size it ways a lot more. For example the Volkswagon Gold is aroun 2800 pound I think, I may be wrong. The C230 is almost 3400 pounds. Any reason why it weighs so much?

Its heavy because its built well. It has a stronger chassis with less flex and uses thicker sheet metal.

I can chime in and say that they hold up very well in an accident. I know from personal experiance

All the saftey equipment that comes standard on MB cars doesnt weigh 0...
Besides like others have said, these cars hold up better than most in crashes. I have a pic of the New E Class crashed at 40mph towards the front left. The passenger area suffered almost no deformation or damage other than that of deploying airbags. What does this mean for me you might ask?
Crash in an MB, and you will probably walk away unscathed.
Crash in another make and i hope you have lady luck on your side cause i sure wont be in there with ya

About the picture above... If that accident was in real life, the car would be totalled (not fixable).. right?

This accident happened under controlled environments... but it looks totaled to me. The engine actually absorbs some impact and deforms in the process so it probably wont be a good idea to rebuild a car like that. In reality most crashes are usually roll overs which MB has one of the highest ratings in... esp C class.

Heh, that's why when I was choosing my first car I was telling my parents: "You don't have to spend a lot of money for me. Get me a Civic... hell, get me a USED Civic...", but my parents went ahead anyways and bought me an ML320 as my first car(!). And then I actually crashed it. Nailed a stalled car in the middle of the freeway onramp on the way to school one morning, and I walked away unscathed (except for minor whiplash). I was even able to get picked up by my dad from the accident site and head off to take my AP test that morning!

I always asked my mom why she always preferred Benzs over anything else, and she explained: "if my car and and a Civic got in a serious accident, who do you think would suffer less damage?" Good point...

This is exactly what i am talking about... MBs may be expensive and heavy, but on today's roads, they make waaaay more sense to drive than most other automobiles.
I had a friend in dallas who worked for Ewing Autohaus who told me about a customer in a W210 E Class driving to work who got slammed against by another car from the back and then he hit the car infront of him. He walked away without a scratch actually pissed he was going to miss his appointment!
This should become their advertising catchphrase:
MB Automobiles - They let you get on with life.

Ever notice how stable a heavier car "Sounds" and "Feels" at high speeds. Try sitting in an Integra at 80mph. My car seems just as stable and quieter when going 140mph.

Yes, mine too. It was one the big things that swayed me away from that "other" Acura after the test drive.

I hated the heavy feel on the first test drive because I was used to the tissue-paper-light Japanese feel. Now that I'm used to it, I hate to drive my wife's Honda.

Don't have to. She does her own thing. She wants to buy herself an SLK, a TT, or a Boxster

I'm actually trying to convince her to keep the Accord for a few more years. We commute together so there's no point in having 2 lux. cars.

We'll wait and see what the new SLK looks like. I like the Boxster too, but the SLK roof is almost a must-have for our NH winters.

Especially true today with all of the idiots out there today driving SUVs like they're smaller cars. My GF saw an SUV-MB accident about a year ago, she said the SUV was totalled but Merc didn't look that bad. Of course, I had a German friend who didn't like Mercedes for that very reason, apparantly whenever they crash into one of those little Euro commuter cars everyone in the small car is killed while the Merc driver walks away unscathed.

Here's a pic from Euro NCAP's crash tests of the W203. It was the second car ever to achieve 5 stars (Renault Laguna II was the first).

I don't know what reality you live in, but here in mine, roll overs in car crashes occur quite rarely
