the W204 is due out in 2006 as a 2007 model as far as i know, from what ive read.
you can also check the roadmap on mbspy, though not sure how up to date it is, the site hasnt been updated for some time.

It is very unlikely we will see the W204 in the US market until the '08 model year, likely sometime in the early summer of 2007. Production should begin in late '06 for the EU market.
I find nothing "butt ugly" about the shots I've seen of the W204, but as always, these are matters of opinion. It will certainly be more handsome than the E90 BMW, in any case.
Finally, I'll observe that you do NOT want to be the first on your block to own any German car. First year production risks are extremely high; this was true for the W203, and it is proving true for the E90 3er. If you wanted a W204, I wouldn't advise even considering one until well into the second model year, preferably calendar year 2008, by which time they will have had at least 18 months of production under their belts.

It looks OK I guess, after staring at a pic of it for a while. Seems MB is intent on moving further away from the classic looks though. I don't think it's ugly, just a little too Acuraish for my taste.

Mercedes all the way!
where does one get pictures of this new W204? i'm just afraid they might go too "japanese" on this one. the E90 already looks like a bit of a letdown although it's surely a nice car to drive.

one can find photos at autospies.com, search for w204.
jrct is right to raise the warning flag. These cars might have a new engine that has electric valves, a supergharger, and direct injection. I'd be very leary of that much inovation all at once. A 39 month lease, covered by factory warranty (in the US), might not be bad.

had a Mercedes-Benz F600 Hygenius
"This stylish crossover vehicle also doubles as a mobile power source.
The vehicle has an electrical socket built into the tailgate with enough juice
to power the amps of a rock band, as was demostrated at the unveiling.
Mercedes says the hydrogen power plant produces the equivalent of 115
horsepower and can run about 250 miles between fill-ups.
It also can start at minus-13 degrees Fahrenheit."

2006 W203's with new V6 engine parameters were released back this summer.
W204's are due out in late '06/early '07
but like everyone has said, I wouldn't buy first/second year until all the bugs are worked out, and that's if and only if I like the new styling.
So far the SPY pics make the thing look horrendous, and side by side you couldn't tell if it was a Hyundai, Infiniti, or Kia !!!

Gunak is a very talented designer, but do any car builders let lone stylists have the entire project? Would be cool if they did. We would be able to tell the difference between cars without looking at their VIN.
