An annoying problem.

Guys I have an annoying problem. My display reads that my front right turn signal has malfunctioned. Well I just changed the bulb and the malfunction still appears. I don't think it is a fuse problem because that is all electrical according to the manual. Has anyone else experienced this problem and fixed it? Any Ideas??? It is annoying because the switch makes that fast turn signal sound.

If I remember correctly there was/were TSB/s on the front lighting. Some members even posted info about. But alas I'm too lazy to search. :p

amdeutsch is correct, there is a TSB on this and the turn signal wiring harness had to be replaced on both sides of my '02.

Thanks for the replies guys I guess the next step for me is to go to the dealership. Were could I find more information on this or should I rely on the dealership's SA to look it up for me? And would/is the TSB still in effect or is there an expiration date on these type of problems?

Okay, I just found this on the TSB sticky. " P-82_10-195C JUL 03 Lighting - Front Turn Signals Inoperative". Should I print this out and present it to the SA or just mention it to him and hope that he finds it in his computer?

You shouldn't have to bring anything in with you, but it will never hurt. They knew right away with my car and replaced the harnesses. Good luck.

I don't assume anything with my MB dealers. I'd not only take the printed copy of the TSB with you, I would make sure they see it. If nothing else, it tells them you're on the ball (not their typical customer) and that they need to raise their game to keep up with you. Can't hurt.

Before you take it in, are you having brake lamp bulbd or tag lamp bulbs burning out. There are updated harnesses for those also. Just my $.02.

Take out the bulb holder and look at the 2 silver contacts on them, if you dont see anything wrong, switch the bulb holder from your left and right lights and see if the message changes side. I had the same message as you and it was just one of the contacts on the holder had somehow corroded so a cheap £3 fix for a new bulb holder.

Thanks for the help guys. f4iman78, thanks for the tip, but the brake lamp bulb or tag lamp bulbs are not burning out, it is just the front turn signal and sometimes it is the parking/city light as well. When I replaced the bulb I noticed that the old one still had its filament still intact, but I still replaced it with a new bulb and the malfunction persists. The malfunction that I am getting is the front left turn signal needs to be replaced and occasionally the front parking/city lamp error will come on as well (these are on the left front) I am going to try what zishan03 recommended in the morning and switch the bulb holder even though they didn't look like they had corroded and let you guys know what happens. Again, thanks for the tips, this is driving me nuts, especially when I want to turn left with my turn signal on.

I was about to change the bulb holders this morning to see if that was the problem when I noticed that the right bulb holder has wires going to it unlike the other one. There goes that idea of problem solving. Here are the pics, please excuse the quality, they were taken with a camera phone.

The first pic is the bulb holder on the left hand side of the car, it is also the one that is not working.

The second pic is the bulb holder on the right hand side of the car, with wires attached, it is working

The right side (with the wires) is the updated harness for the turn signals. You need the same set up for the left side. It is pretty bad that they didn't replace both sides at the same time. That pisses me off (pretty bad to see some of this bad workmanship coming out of dealerships-just venting, sorry).

The manufacturer's warranty has expired, but I do have an extended warranty up to 100K miles that the dealership accepts. (I am the second owner, the previous owner must have had the right side updated) Is this something that more than likely will be covered under the warranty or was there a recall that I would hope the dealer would honor?

Be careful with the "up to 100K miles" on your extended warranty. When was your extended warranty started and how many years extension is it? No recall, covered under warranty. On mine they also spliced a couple wires into the harness as part of the TSB.

No recalls and most likely the extended warranty will not cover the harness.

I purchased the car last Feb. so the warranty is good for at least another year and a half. or 40K miles. I'll have to ask my SA as far as the price to fix it. But let me understand, this was not a recall or was it. If it was is it too late for me to have them correct it without a charge?

Why not just ask them?

"Recalls" are for safety related issues and are required by the govt. There are hundreds of "service campaigns" and "TSBs" that are internal to MB and are for issues that are not safety related. Anything is possible under warranty. Ask.

mercedes c class avantagarde se (sport pack)
got mine back today.

they replaced the mirror mounting bracket and the wiring that goes into the mirror housing on both sides. spoke to the service manager and he says they have replaced this on loads of C's and that mercedes UK are aware of the problem...

My dealer initially told me that it is common for the mirror housing to be loose on the drivers side, i knew this was a fob off and as the car was brand new i wasnt happy. I called mercedes uk directly and spoke to them who said that this was not the case and wanted to know who at the dealer fobbed me off with this excuse! They must have given someone at the dealer a bol***ing as the service manager called me within 30 mins of my call to mercedes uk!

Ask them when your warranty expires....date, not miles.

The dealer quoted me $275 for a wiring harness to fix the driver's side turn signal. Does this sound right?
