offsets for Coupe

Can somebody explain offsets to me? I've done some looking around on the internet and forums and i'm still not sure what a higher offset or lower offset would look like. Do lower offsets just make the wheel stick out more? I've got a c230 coupe and I just want to know what kind of wheels I can fit (ie max or min offset of front and back) I'm thinking of buying some used oem rims off a c230 sport and dont know if they will fit. I think somewhere it said that those were 30 ET in front and 35 ET in back? Thanks

In most cases lower offset will make the wheels stick out more. A wheel with multi pieces will have deeper lip as the offset goes lower, they even have negative offset . Not sure about coupe, but for sedan it's around 37 both front and rear. ET30 in front is fine but watch for the width of the rims, too wide and u may have to roll the fender. Also make sure it clear the caliper, if u have sports brake that is. ET35 for the rear is fine.
For the record, my 19 inch has ET37 with 15mm spacer up front and ET24 on the rear, the width are 8 and 9 inch respectively, i need to roll the fender and carefully choose a brand of tyres with stretch sidewall.
