8000 miles on my Auto Coupe

Just an update .. overall , this car is wonderful and worth what I paid for it. Acceleration with auto xmission is adequate, sometimes it surprises me ( takes off quickly ) and other times I watch low-end cars pass me . Gas mileage has improved over time, but city driving yields horrible mpg. The trunk space is not adequate ( even for just 2 people's luggage ). I'm going to have to rent a large car to go on a trip .
There's a few quality problems surfacing (1) a click when bringing up the driver's window and (2) shades on the panaramic roof which do not retract fully. We'll see how the MB dealer handles.
Also, right away, I had fogging in the middle of the windshield..this is from the triangular piece on the dashboard which is outgassing ( so I've read ).
Again, this car is definitely worth the money. Hope it lasts with minimal problems for at least the 50,000 miles under warranty.

The trunk space is not adequate ( even for just 2 people's luggage ).
I had to drive my Dad and stepmom to the airport a few weeks ago. They each had a HUGE suitcase and carry bags (enough for a 2 week trip to Europe). I had the choice of taking them in my coupe or the wife's 4-door Accord. We all automaticaly assumed that all the stuff would fit in the bigger car so we started to load up the Accord. No go. With the seat folded down there is no room to sit (no 60/40 split). After a bit of struggling we moved over to the coupe.

Pop the coupe hatch, take out the shelf, flip down the 60 portion of the 60/40 seat, throw the luggage in (with room to spare) and, with 3 people comfortably seated, off we went.

turn that stupid dial on the middle top of the dash and it magically goes away... ... took me like about a month to figure this out... but it does fix the problem

That foggy thing appears externally... I called MB dealer today, that told me to push window defrost and ec at the same time, little dot-lamps should flash for a few seconds and it's gonna reset some positions....?! I tried, but it didn't work.

That's an easy one, bring it to the dealer and have them lookup the TSB. They replaced my vent and no more fogging. From what I understand it fixes the problems in two ways, 1) it's made out of a material that doesn't outgas chemicals and 2) it has deflectors in side to divert the air into the cabin instead of on the windshield. I've had my car for close to 2 weeks with the new vent and it's great, as good as a Honda.

Fogging externally ? Do you mean outside the windshield where your wipers are ? If so this problem has nothing to do with the outgassing problem. The outgassing problem leaves a misty fog on the inside of the window that does not go away.

For other posters of this thread - what was the build date of your car ? I am curious to see if there is a relationship here since some people have had no problem.

I think the new vent fixes both problems, the condensation problem by diverting the air towards the cabin instead of the glass. When you have the vent done you will see the diverters under the grid, it's different than the original.

I don't have that info with me but I drove it home on August 4th, 2001 so there's a good chance it was built before then.
