New Headers from Kleeman for M271

Here is what they say:
"KLEEMANN introduces the Tubular Header for the M271 Mercedes-Benz engine. Mounted on the four cylinder Kompressor engine fitted in all newer 180, 200 and 230 models, the high flow exhaust manifold adds 25 Hp and 30 Nm of torque to the power output.

This significant effect is obtained due to the headers' ability to reduce exhaust back pressure, allowing the engine to breathe freely and thereby produce more power and torque.

Primary pipe diameter is 43 mm and the 63 mm down pipe features a 200 cell sports cat. Both header, down pipe, and cat are made from high quality stainless steel.

For further optimization of your four cylinder Mercedes-Benz, the KLEEMANN Perfomance kit is available for both the 180, 200 and 230. Fitted with the Performance kit and the new Tubular Header, the power output of a 200 is increased from 163 Hp to 230 Hp."

Is this for the coupe or the sedan? Or do they use the same part #?

I wonder how much that translates into real hp gains? Afterall, Kleemann in Europe seems to be one that over promises. If anyone remembers the 40HP pulley for the M111 that yielded closer to 25-30hp. So using their formula, the 15HP gains are still pretty respectable.

Any word on cost? And is it something one can do in the garage on jacks, or should I take it down to the mechanic and have him lift the car for it? Also, does this increase the chance in failing a smog check down the line, as you're allowing more free-flowing output?

Well, I guess I'm going to have to be the guinea pig again . I've been waiting to stick on "Kleemann C20K" haha.

On the note about failing smog checks, no, the car will pass with flying colors. Spoke with corey about this ages ago and he spoke of our cars running very clean from the beginning.

I've inspected our cars underneath the lift (God knows how many times :\) and it would definitely be to your benefit to install these headers using one. There's lots of "space" for the headers persay, but removing them is still a bit of work. Take it to me .

About their cost, estimates are between 1800-2000 dollars.

Wow finally! I couldnt wait for Kleeman to release there header. I already have the Kleeman pully kit. I just had to wait around for this day. Now our cars should be pulling some impressive numbers. We will see if it the H/P gains and torque gains are what they say. Either way they will be much better than the stock exhaust manifold.

Hey K#6 . Welcome aboard. By the way, I believe we should all do a baseline dyno with the pulley kit and then an after dyno with the headers. Is this feasible for you? I'll be organizing a dyno here in thebay area very soon.

25 hp to the crank sounds like it may be possible, but I doubt this is at the wheels.

Either way, depending on pricing, this may be worth it (even for those that don't have the Kleeman pulley kit).

No way will you get 25HP on an inline four from headers. And 2000bucks? C'mon. Who's gonna blow 2K on some pretty optimistic claims. You'll get 25HP with a V8. 10, 12 sounds more likely. Is 12HP, probably all on top, worth 2,000 bucks? I'm all for this, I think its great that you guys finally get some parts, but sheesh...2K?

I emailed supersprint, and they told me they don't have anything for the M271... where are you getting this info?

I'm not calling you a liar - it's just not what supersprint NA told me, and I haven't seen any info on any website for it. One of us is being mislead, just curious as to who.

I agree, as much I WANT to gain HP on my car, no way $2,000 on a header. Thats 2/3 price of a Turbo kit or a Supercharger kit for other cars.

Smile Optimistic Claims

I agree with Outland. To much money, and a header can only do so much. Remember the muffler is restrictive and freeing up the header wont free up the rest of the exhaust. What about the heat sheild between the header and the blower?? Heating up the Supercharger will cut HP gains.
