Sport Coupes:
C230 Kompressor (2.3L 16valve supercharged): 240km/h
C230 Kompressor (1.8L 16valve supercharged): 240km/h
C230 (2.5L V6 24valve): 241km/h
C320 (3.2L V6 18valve): 248km/h
Sedans:
C240 (2.6L V6 18valve): 235km/h
C230 Kompressor (1.8L 16valve supercharged): 240km/h
C230 (2.5L V6 24valve): 243km/h
C320 (3.2L V6 18valve): 248km/h
C350 (3.5L V6 24valve): 250km/h
In other words, an unrestricted C240 CAN do 146mph. I'm not sure why some people find that hard to believe. It just takes a bit LONGER than the other cars which accelerate faster.

I found this excellent site:
http://www.globalautoindex.com/
I believe they get their information directly from the manufacturers. Yes, you can find info about almost every car there is.

If you guys don't believe it, you guys can get there to see it yourself, don't take this personal, internet is always not the best way to communicate, it often makes alot of misunderstanding in emotion...
But don't say it can't be done if you never been there...
You can also find these numbers easily on googles or yahoo.
210 is always what is limited in the State...
The 500 is not that fast... really. I use to have a SL500, topped out slowly. Maybe the powerband are placed after 250 km/h since the gearing is very tall.
But after 180 km/h, the car is very loud... its very fearful to driver faster...

what says on the spec. is not always the same. I had 2000 C320 and i was able to push it to 256km/h on a straight Autobahn (I was really suprised). I havent had the chance to push my current C240 to its limit but I will try once i have my summer tires on.
but again ppl say what you read on the Tacho is usually faster than the actual speed..

thanks guys, Happy New Year btw.
Remember Mercedes factory spec are always convservative, and the real talent of Mercedes car shows on high speed. Since 30 years ago, almost all their car can reach the speed above 125 mph. All 230 and above model can be reach above this speed (even the 230SL with 4 speed manual tranny). I have lots of original brochures and factory manuals from the 60s and 70s... you surprise how they did that 30-40 years ago. Horsepower is not what brought you to high speed. Gear ratio is very important too, and our Mercedes are specialise in making highspeed machines.
Say, Compares with a BMW 330i Auto, which i have taken it to top speed as well. The 5th Gear ends very quickly, 142 mph or 230 km/h, are already at the red line, which you can't go any further even it has the power to, the gear is short. Thats mean it has higher final driver ratio than our cars, closer ratio. It will do better 0-60, 0-120 than a C320, but a C320 might be faster on the bahn than the BMW 330i

Thanks Mikey82
At first, i don't believe the 320 can reach pass 250 km/h too, but now, i really believe it, since another guy in Germany also took his C320 coupe to that speed, or higher. I'm sure its a wonderful experience.

I tried it once in the turnpike and the digital speedo said 136mph but I think I was going about 132. Digital speedos usually are off by 4 or 5 mph.

MBZ are some of the best car at maintaining composure at high speed. Going 85-90mph in the C32 is like driving 75mph in the 00 328Ci that i had.
the fear you guys have for driving at high speed usually comes from something else that has happened. i.e. Mick's example.
for me I feel safe no matter if I'm going 85mph or going at 155mph elec. limit. I'm only scared of the other drivers, not my car.

Frank's right...
Often these accident are cause by stupid/skilless drivers, not you most of the time.
but Tyres are very important at high speed, like don't run high speed with a tire that is patched before.

Well, seems like most of the people who think its scary are either had some bad experience before or never driven over 200 km/h, so they just think its scary, the more they think instead of doing it, the more they will be scare... its natural.
They will surprise how stable and quiet it is uber 200 km/h
