I meant to say, the Americans or people I know, have always believed the Mercedes Benz is a true sign of luxury & class. If you wish to buy a jap crotch rocket, by all means, buy one! However I'll stick to a Mercedes Benz any day and most everybody on this board feels the same way. Furthermore I truly feel the Lexus is WAY over priced!
1) If you want speed, buy a japanese crotch rocket
2) If you want pure class, luxury and strong performance, buy the Mercedes Benz.

I and many other on the forum see it very differently especially considering there are hundreds of different budgets.
I don't think it's possible to classify all speed wants, into one category. There is a reason why the Dodge Neon SRT-4 exists, and there is also a reason why a McLarenF1 exist. Both satisfy the want of speed, at very different price levels.
Precisely with the luxury and strong performance. Is there a reason why many people cross shop Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi? Because they each have very similair and competitive offerings to satisfy the want of class/luxury/performance.
I think with some slight modification to your statement, it can be considered true. I believe not just Americans (because we aren't the smartest bunch in the world) but people in general all over the world recognize Mercedes as the global leader in prestige.
Certainly there must be a reason why Lexus is the number one luxury marque in America (or maybe number 2, perhaps BMW is ahead.. I cannot remember), and there must be a reason why the IS350 scored so high in the C&D test. They've gotten something right, and they've hit something where the rest of the companies have missed.
I fear not however with the new management at Mercedes. Every company has their golden age cycles. It's only a matter of time. The only problem is.. all the other companies have the exact same amount of time and in my opinion, they already have a head start; they don't need to start from ground zero at restructuring their company.

I'm not surprised with the results. The current C Class is getting old and is competing with two new extraordinary arrivals: IS350 and 330i. However, if Mercedes starts to emphasize on sportiness rather than comfort, life for BMW will be much more difficult than ever. Good article bro!!!!!

I agree, kind of.
However since I am a consumer AND I thrashed the show rooms in Pacific Northwest from lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Cadillac, Acura etc...etc...I found the best buy that had ALL the attibutes of my requests was the Mercedes Benz, by leaps and bounds. My findings are as follows:
1) Lexus- WAY over priced.
2) BMW = The Thomas Kincade of luxury sports sedans, played out. (mass marketed in every size and everybody and thier brother has one)
3) Infiniti - Strong contender, still a ways to go yet.
Cadillac- read #3
4) Acura - Nice car but does NOT have the prestige of the Benz. Also read #3.
So there is no way you can say that for the money the Mercedes Benz is NOT a stong buy. So buy what you wish and I will too, but for now it's Mercedes Benz for me.

I, for one, just do not get the whole 'prestige' thing. I buy a car for how it is engineered, how it is built, how it functions, how well it functions, safety, comfort, etc., etc. - a whole bunch of reasons - but none of those reasons are 'prestige', class, bling, or status symbol.

wonder how next years BMW 335i will go up against the C350 and IS350. supposedly it will produce slightly over 300hp. overall, i'm not a fan of the IS. looks abit strange and cheap to me. likeing the E90 more, but i still think the C looks best in it's class.

The landscape over in Tuscany is beautiful. However the poster "tuscanrider" himself has illusions between Mercedes Benz and a Honda. Wake up Tuscanrider, wake up!

It is delusional to think that MB is better than these makers simply because its a Mercedes. Own one long enough and you'll find out. Performance-wise, I have C230, and its "street" competition is VW Jettas, and Honda Civics. It is lucky to beat these cars.

I'll skip the other manufacturers. You really have to own a BMW to understand why they are sometimes considered the best blend of a race car, and an everyday driver (excluding of course.. the W211AMG and the W208AMG)
