Broken Hood Lever
Ok, well I was coming back from Kragen's and I just got a #10 torx head for the screw....i'm with my friend and he's driving...so we get home and i pop the hood to see if it would fit....ok...so you know how when you pop the hood...that lever pops out of your grille...then you yank that lever and lift your hood upwards? well i wasn't paying attention as i was speaking to my friend and i yanked the lever right out...i looked at my friend with the most shocked look on my face and stuck my whole hand into the grille...(surprisingly my hand fit right through) and got ahold of the base of the lever and yanked it and it released the hood....as i looked at the damage...i said to myself "at least i got this screwdriver" then as i tried to fit it into the socket of the air filter box......i realized i also got the wrong torx head....:'( so now my lever you pull to open the hood is snapped off....anybody know a solution to this problem? i feel so embarassed and upset
.
...the top of my fingers are bleeding like crazy too, as the grille cut up the top of my fingers where you bend....what a horrid day...if anybody could help me, and tell me what to do...it'd be great...my car is still under warranty too. would they cover this?

thats what i hate about the new MB's ... some crappy **** like that. would have NEVER happen with an old MB.
im sure warranty covers it. just dont let em know that you pulled on it like trying to get a chainsaw to start lol

you broke the lever did you not ?
page 296 of the manual says you're not supposed to pull up on the lever (they call it the handle instead of the lever). you're supposed to pull up on the base of the grill. if you did this, your lever would not have been broken.
that lever is made of plastic. it cannot handle the weight of the metal hood.
but it's your car, you can open up the hood any way you like.

Here's the owner's manual for the C-class sedans.

you can bring it to any dealer. if your car is still under warranty, and the service guy determines that it's covered under warranty, they will fix it and charge it to MB.
No matter what, despite this being a plastic piece, it shouldn't have broken off if you just pulled and were lifting from the bottom of the grill (as stated in the manual). Since you followed what is stated in the manual, I don't see why the dealership wouldn't cover this.
You never have to go back to your original dealer ever again, if you don't want. Any MB dealership can do your repairs/services that are under warranty.
For your 6-year old cousin:

Good luck trying to get that resolved :\.
