Left my smartkey in the trunk
I was putting some stuff in my trunk from my best friend's party last night and by accident closed the trunk with the key in it (Kind of sux because I was going to take to beautiful girl home and this sh*t happened). The car was locked, so all the door could not open. Good thing the party was not too far from my house to pick up my spare key.
My question is wouldnt the smartkey recognize that its in the trunk and not lock it? The guy at the dealer told it shouldnt do it but he wasnt sure.

Nope - smart key won't recognize. Same thing happened to me when i was packing for a trip. i was shuffling so many things around and accidently locked both keys in the trunk!
had to get roadside assistance to come over to break into my car. learned my lesson the hard way.

why not use the online remote door unlock through mb 'owners online' function? is it required to have a teleaid subscription for the online remote unlock to work?

The smart key is not self aware, it has no idea where it is unless it is in the ignition.
Best solution is to have a spare metal key made and keep it in your wallet.

{wondering}
If I were OJSimpson and leading LAPD on a protracted chase, can they
simply call in my license plate, convert to VIN and have Onstar shut the
car down? Just how far does this 'convenience' feature extend in terms
of capabilities?

Thanx for the info people!!
Lesson learned too.
I dont have a subscription with teleaid
That not a bad idea. Thanks for the suggestion.
What happened I parked and locked the car and went to the party. When it finished I was going to put some stuff in the trunk but I just opened the trunk (I didnt unlock the car). So I put in the stuff and I left my key.
Good thing I only live about 5mins from the party so my best friend gave me a ride home to pick up my spare.
-OT: The chick called me today and said it was cute that I left my keys in the trunk. She wants go out this weekend.

My question is wouldnt the smartkey recognize that its in the trunk and not lock it? The guy at the dealer told it shouldnt do it but he wasnt sure.

It happened when he closed the door, and he have to call road assistance too, but he waited 4h because he was in a mountain working on a civil project... ohhh and it was snowing
