Just got my mom a C240...need advice

I purchased a 2001 C240 Sedan with 80K miles and i was wondering if there are any initial maintainance i should do immediately. I also purchased a year of powertrain warranty. Are those things worth the value? The car runs great as far as i can tell, just want to know if there is anything I can watch out for or update for her. Its black with gray leather interior. Rear sliding shade obviously doesnt work. I have been reading some of the pages here also.

Generally speaking, when buying any used car, the fluids should be changed. This way you know eveything is fresh and can use this change as starting point for future maintenance good luck& congrats

You may want to pay the top dollar to have a dealer look over the car once and do the initial change so that it is done exactly correct.

open the "tankdeckel" (damn cant remember how its called in english ) that little door where you then but the gas nozzle in. there should be a sticker telling you what you should run on. nevertheless regular would do it to, i believe.

Top dollar for what? fluid changes? that's a waste of money.... find a good independant who will want your repeat business. Dealers are stealers. Especially when you run out of warranty.

Do you all think its a good idea that i bought the 1yr extended powertrain warranty?
Does the SOS and INFO button only work if i pay for the TELEAID service?

I personally think a warranty that covers electrical issues would be more useful on an MB but to each his own. Might want to post what area you live in so that maybe someone can direct you to a good independent shop. Best of luck... and remember to use the search button

Live in northern, VA. They didnt offer me an electrical warranty, but i figured with over 80K miles i wanted the trans and engine covered so i got the warranty for that. The car really runs great. Just out of curiousity, how much does a C240 sedan black with grey leather interior with 80K miles usually go for? if anyone was to guestimate?

Yeah but do the independants have free food, coffee, loaners, indoor golf, Sat TV, etc etc?

I'm just busting chops, I still have a warranty to deal with and I haven't paid for a service yet ('03 still had free service) so dealer it is for now.

Check ebay, or do an edmunds & KBB figure. If your buying it from an MB dealer, add another $1-2k but you're most likely getting Starmark, so it's a bit of a give and take.

Thanks. Well, I have checked on KBB and it states it as $16,700 from a dealer and i got it from a BMW dealership, but i only paid $13K. So i guess i am very lucky with my find.

In the market
It sounds like you did well with the purchase and with the care you are planning to put in the car, it should do you well for a long time to come. I think the one year warranty was a good idea. It only take one internal rod to break to destroy an entire engine, so that little bit of insurance you paid for initially can really pay off. I remember when I was young...maybe 18...I bought a used truck from a dealership and got the same kind of warranty for about a grand. Withing 6 month the engine threw a rod, the tranny went out, and the AC died. For that one grand i paid for a warranty I ended up getting a brand new engine, transmission, alternator, and AC compressor...well over 5 grand worth of parts and labor.

I have a '02 C240. I tried "regular" gas and it will go OK. You will defiantly notice better performance and mileage with a premium fuel though.

'02 MB C240 6spd / '92 BMW 325i 5spd
I have a '02 c240 6spd close to 70k miles and I havent had any problems on the car. Just regular maitenance oil and brake change.
I tried regular gas once because premium was out due to the hurricanes and you do feel quite difference in performance but it could my imagination.

in Fairfax VA. I think i will just take it to get all fluids changed, hopefully it wont be too costly. It does drive nice, she really likes it. I am saving up for the CL55
