No big surprise here, right? The reliability data is hard to dispute (CR gets thousands of survey responses, so it's difficult to quibble over sample size or other defects compared to car magazine reviews). But, CR's overall ratings are heavily weighted on reliability, which is why Toyotas and Hondas always "win" their reviews. Those of us who really value performance don't get that much help in our research from CR.
Seems that the industry will produce a real winner in terms of recognition and sales when the Japanese makes put forward exciting cars (perhaps the Lexus IS350 is the first example?) or the European makes start selling reliable cars.

if the c-class has tight rear leg room
the IS350 has no rear leg room!

Nice post--thanks for sharing. The only things that jumped out at me on the C Class review are the transmission and power equipment. The rest looks very good.
Coming from a BMW 3 series and having driven a Lexus IS a few times (friend owns one), I can say that the C class has "above average" leg room compared to the other two vehicles.
So do you think the 06 model improved over 05?

that CR list dosen't make any sense. They say that the 2004 V6 C-Class should be avoided, but not the 2004 I4 C-Class. Therefore, we can say that the problem lies in the 2.6L (C240) and the 3.2L (C320). If that's the case, ALL the other models with the 3.2L V6 should also be included in this list.
