2003 c230 help

I just got my car on saturday, last night i changed the front headlamps to eaglite xenon gas filled bulbs and took out the city lights until my xenon bulbs come in to replace those. it has been raining here on and off for a couple days so i have not used the sun roof much. this morning on the way to work i tried to open the sunroof, after depressing the button the moon roof started to slide open then stopped, i pushed the button again, it opened just a tad bit more then stopped, i pushed it again, tad bit more then stopped. after pushing the button like 10 times i finally got the moon roof part pulled all the way back, but the glass will not slide back or tilt up. and yes i am holding the button in when i push it. what the hell could be wrong? is it because i took out the city lights in the front and left those empty?

Sorry, yes, you're not clear, then. By "moonroof" you mean the cloth covering? Is that right?

If so, try re-synching the assembly - directions are in the manual. Also try the keyfob thing. Otherwise, it's off to the dealer you go! Not much that you can do if the glass won't even budge. Sorry about the confusion.

either you are misunderstanding, or i typed what i am trying to convey in the wrong manner, the glass will not open at all, not slide back, or not tilt up. i know how it works i was playing with it when i first got the car. the only part that does work in a messed up way is the part vinyl cover thing that rolls back, but it only rolls up a tad bit when i push the button then stops and i have to push it again. and the glass stays shut, does not open at all after the vinyl thing rolls back.

I think you introduced the confusion by saying you opened the "moonroof" when it seems you really meant the fabric shades. The moonroof is the glass panel.

Also to tilt open the roof you have to press the button upward instead of pulling it.

Pull the switch towards the back of the car will slide open the cloth.

Pull the switch again will slide open the glass roof

Push the switch upward - Open the cloth roof if closed
Push the switch upward - will tilt open the glass roof

resynch roof

well, when i tried the key fab thing it fixed it for about 5 secs. then it went back to only opening a tad after each press. if you look on page 266 of the manual it tells you how to resynch the roof, after doing this it worked right, hopefully it does not get out of synch again. i am somewhat disappointed that this happened in the first place, especially since i have only had my car for 4 days. thanks for the info...

key fab

one thing i am a little confused about is the key fab, i have read the instructions on it, but it seems to not act right all the time. for example, when trying to open the windows from the key, i would press it once then again and hold, nothing would happen, i would press it once and hold, nothing would happen, after multiple attemps at pressing and holding multiple times i finally got the damn thing to work, maybe this is what screwed up my roof synch. what is the right way to open the windows and roof from the key unit? what is the proper way to close them? (i know i know, i have the manual, i can read) im telling you it has a mind of its own! lol... ..

joke: how many presses does it take to open my c230 sunroof?

To use the window opening feature you have to be relatively close to the car and point the key at the little black sensors on the door handles - for some odd reason it uses a totally different infrared system than the radio transmission used for the simple lock/unlock feature.

Cheers, BT
