Reverse Tilt-Down of pass. mirror

As most know, I had the tilt down of the passenger mirror programmed when Steve visited Hawaii. However, he couldn't get it to function properly and ran into problems. Before today, it would only tilt outwards instead of down when in reverse.

However tonight, I figured out how to program it (by accident)...

1. Have the mirror adjusting button set on the passenger side.

2. Put the car in reverse and adjust it to where you want it to go when in reverse.

3. Put the car back in drive or park, and the mirror will return to it's original position.

Just thought I'd share in-case anyone else runs into a similar problem when doing this upgrade. Oh yeah, as a note, my car doesn't have the memory seat option.

For some strange reason I have experienced that when some mods are installed they dont work right away (E-class folding mirror being one). Then when the client drives off and locks the car at home they work perfectly.

Something gets reset in the system between the workshop and the final destination and it has happened to me several times. I get a client phone call telling me that a second visit wont be needed !

I think that pass. side reverse dipping is a VERY COOL mod because it normally only gets bundled with memory seats. Finding that it can be done on any car is very useful indeed. Especially cars like the SLK.

Its good that you pointed out the mirror button trick. Most people forget.

EKY, does your car have memory seats? If it does, then the directions are definitely in the manual, but if not, it's interesting to hear how your figured it out.

For my car, in order to program the right side mirror, you have to adjust the mirror to where you want it to be (when the car goes in reverse), press and hold the green memory button and then press the right arrow on the mirror adjustment button (to set the reverse mirror position). Without memory seats, I could see where it would be difficult to figure out how to make it function properly.

I don't have the memory seat option and never had the pass. tilt down of the mirror until Steve programmed it with the module included with the power folding mirrors he installed on his previous trip so I never graced through that portion of the manual. And according to steve, he said in order to work I would have to reprogram the module with someone who does have the memory seat option in order to get it to work. Hence, I thought this bit of information I found out would be useful to those who install this mod without the memory seat option when Steve visits.

Hi EKY,

Unfortunately your instructions did not work on my car. Can it be because my car has manual gearbox ? Also I do not have memory seats.

You need to get steve to program the mod onto your car first then you can do those steps to make it work

Firstly I have done this mod to ML, SLK and C personally. There are 5 steps.

1/ New pass. door module (as all these cars are without memory).

2/ Upgraded version of mirror frame (pass side) to include memory (can also have folding and dimming)

3/ Coding the regular functions into the door module

4/ Adding a cluster menu to the cluster for left side dipping so it can be disabled or enabled

5/ Testing and mirror position setting using the normal method like someone with memory seats.

I am really interested in getting this feature to have passenger side mirror dip when in reverse and if possible to get both mirrors to fold when auto is locked. I would really appreciate instructions how can this be done by me or the local dealer here in Malta.

Thanks in advance

If the car is 2005 built and later then its very easy. All you need is the parts.

If the car is built before 2005 then you need to order a set of parts and have special coding done that the dealer can not do normally. Even original diagnostic can not make all functions.

Someone like Steve can do it.

If you order the parts from Steve and you want me to come in July I can visit Malta from Germany .... but I suggest you ask Steve to see what he can do. At this moment I dont have memory seats but my mirrors have all functions.

My car was built in 2005 and delivered to me in November 2005. Could you please tell me what parts I need to enable this function.
Thanks in advance.

...and that is exactly why we couldn't get EKY's mirror programmed as he does not have memory...knowing that it can be adjusted differently anyways is interesting.

When I first got my 270CDI I thought the auto tilting reverse mirror would be usefull but I switched it off at the second day as I barely ever need it and driving off my driveway is so much easier with a non tilting mirror...

and as benzmodz already pointed out: those without a mamoey driverside seat need to get parts replaced before this can ever work!

greetingz,

greetingz,
If you don't want the mirror to tilt down when reversing, turn the left mirror button switch ON
