No rear wiper! - Big Mistake!!

I am mystified why MB do not put a rear wiper on the C class coupe. The rain just wants to hang on to that slope at the back!

I would have thought that it makes sense from a safety point of view. Never mind that it ruins the look or 'coolness' of the car.

Are you kidding? I've had my car for 9 months and have NEVER needed a rear wiper and I've used the rear "defrogger" maybe 5 times in the winter. It's definitly not a safety factor.

Every time I see a hatch with a wiper I cringe. If MB put one on my car I would promptly remove it.

i don't miss the rear wiper either. my old acura had it and i used it a couple of times (after fumbling around to figure out how to turn it on...)

i also like the look w/out the wiper - cleaner.

I'm with the limey :p - there have been several times when I could've used it. I use mine on my crx all of the time.

I'd assume that they didn't add it for cosmetics, which should take a backseat to safety, and I'd feel safer if I had one. If we get some actual snow this winter, I'm sure that I'll really wish that I have one.

Anything to improve visibility is a safety factor!

You obvoiusly do not suffer the inclement weather conditons us Europeans have to put up with.

I personally prefer the non-rear wiper look. To simply say that it should be there because it improves safety is rather weak. I have never had an occassion where I would have actually used a rear wiper. That being said, it would simply be another obstructive portion along the rear glass if one were present. So, for me, and likely many others, it probably would deter from safety by further lowering rear visibility.

Anyway, not all things on the C230 are perfect, but deleting a rear wiper works for me better.

CP

P.S. Just put some Rain-X on your rear glass if you are having a problem.

I have had mine a year now (15k miles) and to date have not missed the wiper. Personally I don't think it is such a big deal with this car. I have been in some very heavy rains and a few mild winter storms and have been able to see clearly.

It's not any more of a safety feature than headlight wipers.

The only time I need rearward visability is while backing up. The rest of the time the windshield works fine.

Inclimate weather? Yeah we don't get much of that in NEW HAMPSHIRE!

Well, that's what I was talking about. Standing water on a rear window is b!tch to see out of when you're backing up. A wiper would've cleared that up in 2 secs (I know that I could do that as well with a blade, but I do admit to laziness). Also, snow does accumulate on hatches, so I do think that I'll miss having one this winter.

That was funny about NH, though. I can see the slogan now: "I went to New Hampshire in the winter for the beautiful weather." As if!

Yeah, gimme a rear wiper, and for Christ's sake, gimme auto-close on the panorama. The darn panel is so huge it seems like it takes forever to close while you have your finger on the button. It's got auto-open - 2-stage even - so what's so hard about adding another chip...the windows have it. They haven't been cheap in any other department so why here? They even throw in the rain-sensing intermittent wipers...
Go ahead - make sense.

columbus, I've really been enjoying your posts today.

My thoughts exactly on the pana-roof. I've been working a on a bootleg oversize pulley that will give it a little more speed. I can't decide if i want to do a ring-type or replace the whole pulley. Then there's the question of the damper.... But with a pulley and a chip, I think it'll do an open/close cycle in less than 1sec. :p

But what about the air/fuel ratio? Post dyno results when done!

But what about the air/fuel ratio?
Only my competitors' $9000.00 pulleys have problems with that. Besides, there's an "Iraq" menu that the dealer can pull up and change the settings. I'm just not clear if the units are in American or Metric. BTW: I'm arranging a shootout to see whos pulley makes the roof close faster.

Or why not Voice Recognition? OPEN ROOF and CLOSE ROOF etc?

This just reminded me of one post I read on this subject a long time ago - from an Italian guy who said that this is a big deal in Italy - other drivers on the road think that you are showing them a finger every time you're closing the pana roof

On a hatch, I prefer a rear wiper. When I filled out my initial customer survey, the first item under what I didn't like about the car was the lack of a standard rear wiper. MB could scoop out the rear wing a bit to better "cosmetically hide" the wiper for those who like a cleaner look. Just my .02 worth.

Hey, NOW you're talking! But knowing MBs policies, that feature will only be available with the phone option. For the rest of us, there'll be an additional screen on the display: "NO AUTO-CLOSE" :p

Time warp 22 years into the future since last post. Newb looking up “does the w203 sport coupe have a rear wiper”

Wot!?! No rear wiper? A rear blade is a privilege to use here in SoCal. We never get a chance to use it, let alone our front wipers.

They’re good for other things too…
