Does anyone know where on the car this sensor is located? I've been looking for a long while and cannot find it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

For ESP or for BiX? Merc call a yaw sensor for BiX - I don't know the answer to either but would love to. Have not found on any forum. Maybe the pros can help.

For ESP. I'm assuming there is only one. The thing is elusive! I've looked in both fuseboxes, under the hood, all over. Will keep looking and report if i've found anything. A thorough google session didn't yield much, but let's hope one of the pros here can chime in...

If anyone is interested, the part number is:

Try looking under the rear seats if you have a W203 sedan Or look under the plastic trunk liner of the CL203.

Your best bet would be to ask the question in the Tech ? section of the forum. Or call your local parts manager at the dealer and have them find the part on EPC. Even if you find it and replace it, you'll probably need to have the code cleared with DAS.

pshek,

thanks for the leads. i'll do some uncovering and see if I discover anything....Also will get a photo of this part up so people know what it looks like. It's quite small.

side topic:

pshek, is there a thread about your car on here? I'm pretty intrigued at a 203 coupe with a c32 engine. Sounds insane!

Elduderino,

Here's the link. I haven't updated the thread for awhile now even though I've since added a lot more mods. Lazy I guess.

thanks, you can try searching through these pdfs on ESP...at least they're informative about all the technical aspects of MBs.

Morning All,

With pshek's direction, I found this diagram about the w203 esp/bas system. The closest thing to what I've got is here:

However, the code I get is "C1142 ABS lateral acceleration sensor (B24/2), short/open circuit"

The one in the diagram is B24/15. Same thing? Also, the diagram is a bit vague with regards to location. I checked under/around the ashtray, and in and around the shifter housing. Nothing.

Interesting. The BiX must use the same sensor - at least the terminology is the same (Yaw sensor)

problem solved...

The damn sensor was deep in the trunk underneath the rear seat (but accessed from the trunk), so Pshek was right about the location. Gah. Code is gone. $104 little plastic box did the trick.

Is it this black box in the middle of the picture? I just started getting a solid ESP error message after being intermittent for a couple of weeks. Start the car and let it idle and the message comes up. Wheel full lock left/right/left doesn't help. ESP appears to be not initializing. If the part is only $104 then it's worth the gamble to shotgun it. Steering angle sensor is almost $400.

interesting that the diagram shows the B24/15 right around the top / center of the dashboard in the cabin, and it turns out to be under the rear seat.

Maybe, that's an old ESP diagram, or model specific.

so where on this picture is the Lateral Acceleration Sensor ??

Ok, in the trunk photo. The LAS is underneath one of the other sensors around that blue area. The sensor itself looks like this:

sorry about the poor photo, but it gives you an idea i hope.

Behind the turn indicator/cruise control assembly. You have to remove steering wheel (easy) and the assembly (don't know how hard this is to remove). I was going to try replacing it until I priced it. If the yaw sensor doesn't do the trick then I'll go with SDS.

That diagram is for a car with SBC...maybe a W211/E class?

Just had the dealer replace the LAS in my 2002 C240: $110 for the part, 70 for diagnosis, and 70 for installation. Obviously, if I had known what and where it is, I would have done it myself :- (

Those are very good prices for what you got, even though I think charging separate to hook up SDS is a rip off. That sensor is actually the forward motion sensor. The lateral/yaw sensor costs almost $600 and is located just behind it (viewed from the rear).
