My Maximum Speed: 134 mph
Comments: The car hit its top speed and quit but had a lot left (about 4K RPMs in 5th). Everything felt good but the road kind of went up and down so i felt like the car was lifting off.
PS I got out of a 30 over today with 2 points and $76 fine.

greetingz,
I hear that the German autobahn is maintained better than the roads here in Silicon Valley, CA. At least that's what my German friends tell me.
I'm looking at your pictures and I'm surprised that the 1990 300 SL24 has a 7000 RPM redline. Notice, your fuel consumption is off the board, you're drinking god knows how many liters per 100km.
I like The SLK 230's instrument cluster very much. Not to mention its very comfortable RPMs at yet very high road speeds.
After touring Italy recently, I've realized that I can probably now live with a diesel car. Although personally, in the US, it's probably more worth it to get a large diesel car. Apparently however, they don't go very fast in terms of top speed, but I never drive that fast on the road anyways.
Besides, look at your C250D. It's seen such high speeds, it's probably been driven quite spiritedly and yet it's still running strong at 620k miles plus. I plan to keep my car for over 100k miles (which is already an achievement in the US,) but keeping it for 360k miles? That's unheard of.
Beautiful collection Steve! I hope my car, which is a non diesel lasts half that mileage.

My Maximum Speed: 135 mph (limited)
Comments: Completetly uneventful, have done it several times - not quite as smooth as the E class at high speeds. 241 is perfect for topping out our cars, but the most fun I've ever had on it was doing ~150 in a c5 corvette vert with the top down.

Where: I-15 going to Vegas baby!
I had four big guys in the car and we were doing 130mph without a problem. The speed limiter was the only reason we didnt go faster!
Been back to 130mph a few times since, rock solid with my Eibach springs and sways!

136 mph
about 78% throttle
5800 rpm
probably about 5 mph left.
Very stable and smooth. Clear sunny day, straight country road, no other traffic. Stayed there about 2 miles. Did not detect a governor when do those start governing anyway?
Did it just once, probably never again.

I hit close to 135 coming from Atlantic city on I95 no traffic and I mean there was no one around for about 1/2 hr or so so I just let it go for a while, and this was done pre 19's (Stock) car felt stable but not nimble enough to move side to side at these speeds and seems as if I could have gone faster (I try not to do this much) .................................................. ........................

Where: New York City's I-495 (after exit 68 heading toward east LI)
Speed: close to 135mph
Why!: because i was racing my friends TL, he chicken out aroun 125ish, and I wanted to push it to the limit.
Comment: Car accelerated very quick 60 to abt 85ish and then pushed up to 135ish and vibration, steering got a lil heavier, but overall its still undercontrol.

There are pics of a C30 CDi AMG (the only diesel ever produced by AMG) reaching the magical 292KM/h.
You would be surprised by what a diesel motor can do ...

I was racing 2 "Crotch rockets" at night ant they backed off at 130 but I kept going, looked at the dash and hit 140. I have hit 125 on several occasions when C230's come up and want to go for it on the freeway. The extra power really helps can't imagine the C55 although both cars are probably limited to 155 mph. That is the problem with the C350 - it looks just like the C230. I should take my rear badge off and really suprise some people.

greetingz,
the subject of this thread wasn't "realistic" or "unrealistic" speeds...
the subject was "how far have u taken your car"...
this coupe c220cdi went until 255km/h... whats the unrealistic of that?
seemed pretty real to me :P

a big hug,
I actually kept track of the C30 CDi AMG. I hope that AMG produces some diesel cars for the US market, as I would consider the acquisition of such a vehicle.
Regarding the "realistic" part of it. I'm surprised that the gearing on a stock C220 CDI allows it to go so fast. I would imagine that the top speed in top gear (based on the redline) would be considerably lower than 255km/hr.
Basically, since diesels have lower RPM ranges (redlines at 5000), I'm surprised that it can go so fast at such low RPMs.
Regarding the picture, I doubt that's a stock C30 CDI since the C30 CDI has an AMG instrument cluster.
So I'm totally confused. Are we even sure that's a diesel? Then again, the petrol engines aren't really geared for that kind of speed either (unless you go well into the redline). If I were to take the C230 all the way to the redline, it'd stop at 150 mph (without the limiter), assuming that the torque converter is still locked up.

My Maximum Speed: 95mph
Comments: I was on the straight stretch of I-5 southbound after SR-152, before the merge with SR-99, and probably could have taken it faster, but I had to be careful of the wind generated by the transport trucks in the right-hand lane. The car felt very smooth, and I didn't feel like I was actually going that fast until I looked at the speedometer. Unlike my previous car, which felt like it would shake itself apart.
My Garmin GPS indicates that my top speed on the entire trip was 113mph, but I have no idea where I would have gone that fast. Certainly not anywhere on the freeways in Los Angeles.
