Front brakes on '97 C230

I recently replaced all four brakes (rotors, pads and sensors) on my 97 C230. All seemed to go very well with the process being much simpler than I thought it would be. Shims were applied to the backs of the pads as spec'd in Bendix instructions, but did not apply any of the adhesive included with the parts. Brake function is very good. Over the last 2-3 weeks, tho, the front pads are moving and slapping in their mounts when applying the brakes while backing up. The pad position shifts from the front of the caliper to the rear of the caliper. With tire removed, you can push the pad back and forth in it's caliper. This wasn't the case when first installed. There are no brake fluid leaks and brake action is even (no pull right or left) when applying light or hard pressure.

Any ideas what I need to do or didn't do when replacing the pads?

Many thanks in advance,

Steve in TX

Adhesive? Are you sure it wasn't high temp grease? Where did they say to put the 'adhesive'? Are you sure the rotors mounted flush with the hubs (take off the wheel and spin the rotors and see if there is any runout)? What type of lubrication did you use and where did you put it?

Mike,

Small red tube labeled 'adhesive'. Didn't use it or any other lube on the pads or other parts: didn't see a need or where it might be applied.

Mike,

No runout, either. Rotor op is as smooth as silk.

I bet the 'adhesive' was for the caliper bolt threads.....you should be using lubricant at several points.....where the 'ears' of the pads mount and slide, between the caliper pucks and the pads/shims, between shim and pad, and along the pin that passes through the pads. I recommend high temp ceramic based grease. How are you measuring the runout?
