I was wondering if any of you noticed this, by and far the majority of benz or any premium cars in the lower New York/NJ/CT area are c-classes ..
I test drove a 2004 one for a few days from a friend of mine....
it drove like a boat, had a small interior size, and the base price was like 30-40K ( twice the price of a well equipped accord) .. I don't get it, why do so many people buy these cars ?

people like the fact that its just an affortable benz .?

just curious...

A loaded 2006 Accord is $32k. Yeah. $32k for a Honda. No thanks.

for just one or two people, the interior is just fine. I'm ~6ft and have plenty of space. Also, I love having a small car that I can fit in anywhere.

and the base price was like 30-40K ( twice the price of a well equipped accord)
even a base 230k isn't even at all comparable to any Honda. Honda's are just made cheaply and, while a C230k isn't exactly a nice Benz, a Honda cannot come near the quality of a C-class.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
I tried an Accord, seemed ok at first glance, was a bit pricey, very nice build quality, but the thing drove like a sewing machine on skinny tires. It just lacked road manners. It was also hard to see out the windshield, I had to pull in my neck. I felt like Yurtle the turtle a comin down the road.

I did notice a distinct smell of rice when I first opened the door of the Honda, might have been my imagination though.

seriously...

I love how as of late, most of the people with older MB's, well over 10 years old love to criticize and mock the C-Class.

Accord is a very nice and reliable car but for the price I just can't see myself spending 32-34k on a Honda unless its a S2000.

C-class will beat accord any day !!

The only downside of mercedes benz, that I can think of, is expensive maintenance .

Let's see the choices for the entry luxury catagory:

MB C-Class
BMW 3 Series
Audi A4
Jaguar X-Type
Lexus ES

Skipping over the first two, the Audi is essentially a VW with a different badge. Yeah, way to waste money. The Lexus is essentially a Toyota Camry, another waste of money. By waste of money, I sugguest buying the lesser named counterpart. Now, the Jag is a Ford Mondeo, but since you can't get one in the States, I guess it's a bit better. It is also AWD.

Leaving two choices, the MB and the BMW.

Or, I guess we could be the ultimate poser and drive an ML like yourself. Explain to me why you bought an ML. By far the worst MB ever created. First, it's made in the USA, second it has the worst service record of any Mercedes ever produced. Third, it can barely go off-road. Why didn't you just buy a Jeep for half the price?

I think a lot of those customers would also cross-shop the following cars:

Lexus IS (250/350)
Acura TSX, TL
Infiniti G35
Licoln Zephyr (?)
Cadillac CTS

Barely go offroad?????

Who won Paris-Dakar stock class SUV about 5 or 6 years in a row???? Not Toyota, or Jeep!!!!!

ML Actually does not to badly for off road....just turn off the ESP first!!!! The old ML has a short wheel base, tight turning radius, narrow track - good qualities for off road. (Which also contribute to truck like ride) Unfortunately, it doesn't have locking Diffs.....but then again it is a drive and forget, so the wife can use it too!!!!

The C-Class is a great way for someone to buy a Mercedes-Benz that comes with the same upright star as an S-Class, and is actually made in Germany... versus buying a land barge SUV (speaking of boats) with a cheap plastic Mercedes flat badge, that is made in Georgia.

Really, what kind of question is this, and what do you expect for an answer?

because its supercharged (hehe)

because its Sexy as hell (amg kit anyone?)

because you can mod it (can I get a hell ya?)

because its a benz (hello ladies!) (man and guys, I see so many MEN checking my ride out, I swear its more than the ladies)

The car is beyond sexy as stated above. The body sculpture is unmatched especially for the price range.

I took this car over a 350z for more than one reason. (the z is fun for torque and running it hard , but this car gives me the OVERALL appeal)

There are more but im too lazy to continue to post here

I agree. Back then the first few cars I looked at was a 03 Accord Coupe V6 EX, the car cost about $34k and I looked into a 3.2TL which cost about the same price, then got the G35 sedan for $32k, then that broke down and got refunded and ended up buying a c320 coupe.

btw,

you can say, if ur paying 34k for a jap car that is a "cheap brand" (i cant find another way to put it compared to mb) then its not worth it. but if u think abt it, paying $34 for a MERCEDES-BENZ with all the luxury in its class, then u'll think its worth it.

Plain and simple. It's a Benz.

Okay, in all seriousness, everybody has got their own reasons for buying the car. Mine were simply because I loved how the w203 looked when it first got released. It took me until 2004 (3 years) to buy one, but I jumped in at the right time. I got the 1st refresh (before the 2005) and a great deal for special order. No matter what, I was pretty much set that I was gonna get a w203 (although, if I had the money, it would've been a special order C32).

Since I'm not making a huge amount of $$$, this was perfect for me.

whoa, that's crazy, I also waited 3 years to buy my W203. I was also always a huge fan of how the car looked. Finally bought mine this year...
